The width of the space (for your chair and legs) is 66 cm (26 inches) and the depth of this space is 40 cm (16 inches).
It is wider than the average standard and is  spacious enough to comfortably accomodate an office type gas-lift chair, designed for adults.
Although I bought this desk for my 10yrs old daughter ( who absolutely loves it!), I use it too and also love it.
The desk features multiple different 'zones' for various purposes; 
1: desk surface ( large enough for PC monitor, keyboard and documents to be spread out)
2: four shelves of different shapes & sizes ( we have a small plant on the top shelf with globe, small unicorn :) and books, CDs, pencil case, rattan basket, stereo ! etc on the others)
3: there are 2 good size drawers for whatever needs hide-away storage)
4: spaceous shelf above the drawers ( underneath the desk surface on the right side of the leg space ( which can accommodate tons of large books& lexicons)
5: another strong shelf at the space, where your chair and legs go:  can easily accomodate a PC hardwear and is wide enough to leave space for my daughter's feet ( which she use as 'footrest' :-).. and it has not got broken yet as the quality is strong and good)
6: metal bars on the side of the shelves & the  back of shelf can have multiple functions ( just need imagination: I use one of these cross bars for hanging a cable hide-away box on it with a hook so it is invisibly lays between the wall and the desk without posing hazard for our puppy....the other bars my daughter use for storing her small bits & bobs (e.g.: keyrings, small dolls, memory notes with clips and endless imagination.

We LOVE this desk, she now DOES HOMEWORK because she enjoys spending time at this desk.
It is amazing how this desk transferred not only her bedroom but her motivation.
Its like Narnia: going into another world through the wardrobe, simply.
The colors of the desk are very relaxing: off white ( not too bright) and natural wood and go with other furnitures in the room ( oak & beech) and the desk itself is not bulky, does not take up a lot of space in the room and still gives plenty of storage.
I highly recommend this desk to both kids & adults, very functional, sturdy good quality with affordably low budget price.
