Indicator is ok, base is junk
I ordered this overnight because I needed a dial indicator ASAP to check my brake rotors and wheel hubs for runout and free play.The dial indicator itself is nothing special, but fully functional, and reasonably accurate. It even survived the base falling over and apart a few times...Which is the problem with this combo. The magnet can't even hold itself to my fridge - or car - *without* the dial attached. The first time I tightened a clamp on the arm enough to stay in one place with no load, the threads stripped.... There was no support, service, warranty, or contact information in the package.I got the job done using some clamps and vice grips to hold the arm in place, and having the base on a used rotor on the ground, which it could stick to well enough not to move while measuring... Not ideal. I expect I will continue using the indicator, but will be replacing the base.This indicator sold separately is a decent deal, but I recommend looking elsewhere for an indicator / base combo.

This is a great tool for the price
I work on a drilling rig as a mechanic, I have been using KD Tools for a long time, I own this exact dial indicator because it is the same one I use on my rig. I use it regularly on mud pump crossheads, topdrive quill endplay and so much more. Dropped, submerged in oil, stepped on and left out in the elements this tool works as well today as it ever did. I would and have recommended this set to other mechanics and have purchased it as a gift for fellow wrench-turners. It doesn't get much better than this for the price. Anyone who couldn't make it "stick to their fridge" should probably be taking their mechanical issues to a pro. I'm certain in my 20 years of turning wrenches I've never needed to check the endplay on my brakes and rotors so badly that I had to overnight a tool. If you're a pro and you need a good Dial Indicator, this one is a great choice.
