Learning programming can be a difficult and daunting task for anyone, especially when its Java, the mother of all programming languages. When I first started learning Java, I tried reading through a few of those big, heavy teach-yourself kinds of books. And while I did learn some useful things about Java, I felt like there were still many holes left in my understanding of the language because of how complex and abstract those books can be for a beginner. However, this book (and this series of programming books) makes learning Java much easier by explaining the abstract and complex notions behind the language in a simple-to-understand way that almost anyone can handle. Being able to teach the language like this is going to become more and more important as more beginners strive to learn Java and other programming languages in order to move into the ever growing industry of software development. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn the fundamentals of the Java programming language in a way that is clear and accessible, yet does not sacrifice essential content and depth either.

This is very useful companion book for the programming and logic book. It is not a good stand alone book. Be sure to get the correct edition of the programming and logic book before buying.
