I just returned after surf fishing with this reel every day during a month long trip to Mexico. The reel handled itself well and was quite smooth for about 2 weeks. I caught many fish with it and made sure to wash it down after each use with clean fresh water. Around the 3rd week, the reel started to show signs of struggle and I figured that next year, I would also need to bring down oils and lubes to keep it running smoothly. However, yesterday I returned home and couldn't get it to spin at all because the reel is completely done and seized up. The handle can't be removed whatsoever, even when trying to force it out with heavy tools and a hammer, and every single internal component (upon taking it apart) is heavily rusted and corroded beyond repair. I began the process of cleaning it (as I know how) but after 2 hours in and the deeper I got, the more I concluded that it's not worth any further effort. In conclusion, if you need something for a quick week or two long fishing trip, then this reel will do the trick and consider it a disposable item. If you are looking for something that will last you for quite some time, then this is absolute garbage. Unless you are using it only in fresh water. As a saltwater reel? This should never have been promoted as such. I will keep the spool with my expensive braid on it, but the minute I hit submit on this enty, this reel is hitting the trash.

I got the BG1200 and it's a nice reel for surf fishing. I'm a casual surf fisherman and this is a really nice reel for very little money. The fit and finish is super nice and id recommend it to anyone who likes surf fishing and doesn't wanna spend hundreds of dollars in a reel. This is the 2nd one I bought and the 2st one is still working perfectly.

This reel is advertised as being for saltwater, but I don’t believe it is. I took it to the surf and as soon as it touched the water I could feel the gears grinding and slowing. I washed it off good when I got home and the next day the reel was locked up. I took it apart and the internals were starting to corrode. Saltwater had made its way inside the reel rather easily. Taking this reel apart for cleaning is a chore, the spindle nut is a difficult reach for most wrenches and sockets. I wouldn’t recommend this reel, if you’re saltwater fishing.
