It has potential but in its current form it is badly flawed

I bought this in hopes of replacing my Logitech DiNovo keyboard which Logitech refused to honor the warranty on. This keyboard showed promise but it is maddening trying to use it because of several major design flaws. I really wanted the E9090p model but apparently that is not available yet or isn't available in the states anyway. In retrospect it looks like that model may have included a lot of the same design flaws so I may skip it and look at other brands -- I won't be using this one for long. The biggest design flaw is the touchpad. It looks like it would be handy -- it's a nice large size and doubles as a number pad (I haven't used the number pad but I think mixing it with the touchpad is not such a good idea -- one of the reasons for using a number pad is that one can position one's hand over it and punch in numbers while looking elsewhere -- not so easy to do without actual keys). A simple slide of the finger right to left along the bottom of the touchpad toggles the functions. So what's so wrong with the touchpad? It is incredibly erratic. It is very near the keys so it is easy to touch it by accident which sends the cursor off who knows where -- often resulting in one's typing winding up fragmented and inserted into various parts of the document. If, when using the touchpad, one's palm comes in contact with the touchpad -- even just the bottom edge of the touchpad, it sends the cursor off to the bottom of the screen, which doesn't even make sense since normally the touchpad does relative motion, not absolute (i.e. if I lift my finger and place it in another place on the touchpad, normally the cursor does not move -- I have to slide from one place to another to make it move; but touching my palm to the bottom of the touchpad with my finger still in place causes the cursor to jump to the bottom). To avoid this I have to consciously lift my palm which is uncomfortable over time and not at all natural. When scrolling (which is done by sliding two fingers on the touchpad) it frequently opens the context menu which I have to close in order to continue scrolling even though the way to open the context menu is to tap with three fingers so the touchpad, apparently, has a hard time judging whether I am using two fingers or three. Scrolling is often erratic as well -- sometimes I have to stroke it several times to get it to recognize the gesture. The choice to not include "mouse buttons" and rely solely on touchpad gestures was a huge mistake. Though text selection and drag and drop are possible with gestures it is, at best, hit or miss and can drive one to distraction as a 5 second task turns into a one minute ordeal. Likewise, it was a huge mistake to make page up and page down an overloaded function of the arrow keys (e.g. to use page up one must press the function key and the up-arrow key). The keyboard is crowded and finding the function key and the arrow key is a visual exercise which takes too much time. Also, they made the arrow keys so small, I have trouble hitting a single key -- my fingers often roll over an adjacent key causing problems particularly if I try to do it by touch. The keys have a good feel to them but several of the keys seem to have problems in that they do not register a keypress unless I use a fair amount of force -- the space key is one of them so I am continually having to back up in order to enter a space -- nearly a third of the words in this sentence would be run together had I not done so. The "L" key, when I first got the keyboard seemed to bind to one the neighboring keys so that not only would I have to hit it extra hard but I heard an audible "click" as I forced it past whatever was binding it -- that seems to have worked itself out now but I still have to hit all of the keys fairly forcefully if I want most of them to register. The keyboard is quite solid with a nice brushed aluminum case. As I said, the keys have a nice feel and I think typing would be fairly fast and pleasant if it weren't for the fact that I keep having to correct for keys which do not register and strike the keys extra-hard in attempting to avoid that. The keyboard has no palm rest and doesn't work that well in the lap (which is how I generally use it) in part because it is too compact, the keys too crowded, and the oversized touchpad on the right side makes the keyboard assymetrical. Even though the keys are crowded, they are a good size (the typing keys, anyway) so I don't have a problem generally hitting the correct keys but hands straying from the home position is sometimes a problem even with the raised ridges on the "f" and "j" keys to help one find the home position.I haven't had it long enough to judge battery life but other reviews suggest that it is good. I probably won't be using it enough to judge for myself.

Amazing product, best RF slimline keyboard without any parralel

I bought this to replace the 3rd keyboard for my XBMC media center. I have used rubberized rollup and the iRocks slimline before which served me well but eventually quit working due to heavy use. This thing is rugged due to steel backing yet super slim and lightweight, the keys are scissor type with amazing tactile response and the numpad doubles as a mouse/touchpad. I usually don't write reviews unless I feel strongly negative or positive about a product so you can trust me when I say this keyboard is built and designed well.I must say that the only negative is that the numpad doesn't have tactile response but that's inherent in pairing the numpad as a touchpad but most slimline's don't even have a numpad so it works out pretty well. Overall an amazing keyboard.BONUS* The Fn Media keys work in XBMC* Does not require any drivers/fully functional under Linux

So Close but...

This Rapoo Blade is so close to being a breakthrough product. The build, fit and finish quality are military grade. The simplicity, tactile feel and thoughtful, innovative design remind me of my 3 BMWs and 5 Mercedes'. The customer service and response times were on par with Mac but they, somehow, forgot to engineer in, right-click and drag and drop support! I'm absolutely gob-smacked and flabbergasted and so frustrated because I thought I had found perfection. Rapoo! Fix it! Add illuminated keys and maybe a wired version and you will take the geek world by storm and photon torpedo, without question.

Make sure to also buy a mouse with this!

Usually, I'm very enthusiastic about cutting-edge products such as this keyboard. And it functions beautifully. However, that being said -- "dragging-and-dropping" is not possible using the trackpad -- because there's no equivalent for a first and second mouse button. You can "tap" the pad for a left-click equivalent, but there's no right-click equivalent. Nor can I expand and/or resize windows as needed to fit multiple things on my screen at once. So, basically you need to by a wireless mouse with this keyboard or it's practically useless. Thanks.

As flat as they come.

Pretty happy with this keyboard. I bought it because it has the flattest profile of any keyboard I could find. The keys are close together and it is not an ergonomic configuration, but that is the tradeoff for it's compact size. I believe that there is even one without the keyboard that is even smaller.I have been using this keyboard for years and it is still working perfectly.
