No problem using light sensor with Apple HomeKit

My application seems quite different from what most people are doing with this sensor. First of all, I needed an ambient light sensor to control lights and shades, and this was the only one I could find that would work for me. I don't need motion sensing - there are plenty of these, but very few light sensors. Luckily for me, this does both; I just don't use the motion sensing.Next, my control system is based on Apple HomeKit, not Amazon Alexa or Google. I require devices that don't depend on constant Internet access to work, and this is one of the few for which that's true. My entire home automation system can operate when the Internet is down (but power is on, of course). This is critical when you're controlling heat (burst pipes, anyone?), lights (make it look like someone's home), and other functions. Plus, although I can monitor from outside or be alerted when the Internet is up, my devices don't "phone home" and minimize my system's vulnerability to attack. These are, in my opinion, severe shortcomings of nearly all other home automation ecosystems. By the way, no one is collecting data on me to add to some AI engine or to sell. My privacy is worth something! This product isn't perfect, but it's doing what I need it to do. The AAA alkaline batteries have lasted over 1.5 years, and that's acceptable. I might try replacing them with lithium batteries when the time comes.

Almost unusable on Google Home and Android

At the time of this writing 6 months after release, Eve's website lists Eve Motion (Matter) as supported on Google Home and Android, among other platforms, but the level of support is almost unusable.Eve has no Android app, so there is no way to configure the device except through the Google Home app. This means that you can add the device to your network and see its status, but there's no direct way to link it to do things like turn lights on or off. (Technically, you can create automations that will turn your lights on and off when the sensor detects occupancy or no occupancy, but they're unusable -- the lights turn on when you enter the room, but if you sit still for more than a few seconds they will flip off immediately. Desperate users can read some of the other amazon comments for scripts that can be used to work around this problem, if you want to get into scripting.)Eve support says this is Google and Amazon's problem to fix (apparently it's a problem on Amazon as well), and yes I expect at some point the smarthome platforms will catch up and provide better support for configuring motion sensors. But the real problem here is that Eve says they support Google Home but provides no app to configure it (they do on iOS, so this isn't a problem on iOS or Apple Home). Sure it would be nice if Google Home and Alexa provided controls for motion sensors, but Eve shouldn't release a product and say it supports a platform if there's no way to configure it on that platform. That's on Eve, not on Google or Amazon.Perhaps this will change, but for now it's clear that Eve released this product without a plan for how to really support Google Home and Android. They should update their website and this amazon listing to make this much more clear until they have a better solution.

Works as described

This works exactly as described. I use this as a sensor in my garage to turn off an LED ceiling light I installed with a smart plug since it’s not connected to a physical switch.

Unable to add accessory **** Issue resolved - Review updated ****

***** Updated review - Problem resolved - Sensors now pairing after identifying issue and changing router settingAfter spending another frustrating day trying to get these sensors working I found a document on the internet indicating that devices using the Matter standard require that IPv6 be enabled on the router. I have an Orbi mesh router so I logged into it and found that IPv6 is disabled by default. I enabled IPv6 and was immediately able to easily pair the Eve Motion sensors. I passed this information to the Eve support team and suggested they should make this information available in their documentation and on their support website since other people are experiencing the same issue based on the 1 and 2 star reviews that I read. I am changing my rating from 1 star to 4 stars now that I have resolved the issue and the sensors are working perfectly. I am taking off one star because basic troubleshooting information to resolve issues like this should be available on Eve’s website.I've been trying to find a highly reliable motion sensor that could be used outdoors under my eves for lighting control. They would replace my outdated Z-Wave system that has been in use approximately 15 years. I would use them with Apple Home. The Eve Motion sensors seemed perfect and there were lots of good reviews so I purchased three of them. They arrived the next day.I use a 4K Apple TV running the latest tvOS as my hub so according to the instructions I shouldn't have any problems pairing the motion sensors to my Apple Home using my iPad or iPhone which also had the latest version of iOS installed. Sadly things didn't go smoothly. Despite factory resetting the sensors, installing new batteries, modifying my WiFi network, restarting all of my devices, changing network settings, and using every possible suggestion found on the web I never successfully paired any of the three motion sensors. In each case the dreaded "Unable to Add Accessory" message would appear, sometimes after several minutes with hopefully messages such as 'connecting' and then 'setting up.' Even worse, there doesn't appear to be any way to get reasonably fast customer support from Eve. After much frustration I am returning these sensors to Amazon and will look for other solutions that work. Before purchasing these sensors do yourself a favor and read some of the 1 and 2 star reviews. Had I done so before making my purchase I probably could have avoided wasting six hours of my day and a great deal of frustration. Hopefully someday Eve will acknowledge and resolve the issue to that I can once again purchase their products. Until then I am going to wait until the issues are resolved.
