Nz's manuka honey test parameters, which are umf and mgo, do not include a "uaf" rating. why should i trust this product?

Thanks for taking the time to reach out to us. You are correct, to the best of our knowledge, UMF and MGO are the only two commercial rating systems used by New Zealand honey exporters. There are several additional mandatory tests that are required by the New Zealand Government to be undertaken at an accredited testing facility for Manuka honey that is exported out of New Zealand, which we fully comply with.

To be clear, UAF1000+ is an ingredient and not a rating. We use UAF1000+, which is an antioxidant blend derived from New Zealand-grown botanical ingredients, in almost every product we manufacture, so it is not unique to our honey. Our company is focused on the anti-inflammatory properties of New Zealand-sourced natural health products, which include a wide range; from green-lipped mussel oil, and collagen peptides to blended wheat and barley grass juice powders.

When we add our patent-pending UAF1000+ to any product blend, we greatly improve the anti-inflammatory properties of that finished product.

I have included an example of the testing that we have done on our Manuka honey after adding the UAF1000+.  Please note that the inclusion of UAF1000+ in our Manuka honey resulted in a 60 times greater improvement in anti-inflammatory effect when it was tested in a standardised human cell-based study.

How many MGO have this honey?

Accepted Answer

The answer is MGO 85+. As a rule, multifloral honey is a blended honey that would contain a percentage of Manuka honey that has a minimum  MGO of 200, with other varieties of honey that have little or no MGO content so after blending MGO 85+ would be reasonable to assume. It also means that we would use not less than 40% of raw Manuka honey in our multifloral blends. Typically around (40-50%)

What is uaf compared to umf?

Just to clarify, we do not use the UMF rating system, we follow and comply with the New Zealand MPI guidelines where they test for the MGO levels to certify both Multifloral and Monofloral Manuka Honey.

Our FREZZOR Manuka Honey has been tested and certified by independent laboratories using MPI NZ Manuka Standards. MPI is the Ministry of Primary Industries in New Zealand responsible for regulating food products domestically and import/export. This certification of a Manuka Honey by MPI means that it has passed as genuine certified Manuka Honey. The New Zealand MPI test certifies Manuka Honey is “Certified Manuka Honey” based on natural compounds and DNA specific to Manuka.

Our FREZZOR Monofloral Manuka Honey is guaranteed to have a MGO level of at least 85+ and as high as 200. The equivalent to MGO 85+ is approx. UMF 5+ and MGO 200 is equivalent to approx. UMF10+.

This MGO rating is intended to provide proof that the Manuka honey is authentic. Anything at or above MGO 85 is considered authentic Monofloral Manuka Honey.
