Don’t be put off by the reviews on this page, which at first sight are horrifying news for anyone considering buying the Elecom M-HT1DRBK “HUGE” wireless trackball. A third of the purchasers found it unsatisfactory or barely good enough (up to three stars). There clearly is or was once a quality control problem with the artificial ruby bearings for the trackball. On the other hand, two thirds of the buyers are extremely satisfied or even ecstatic, and there is no problem returning an item to Amazon. Besides, the cure for the bearing problem is known, cheap, safe and quick, a ten minute job with a screwdriver and instructions freely available on YouTube. In addition, the choice of solid large, multifunctional trackball mice is basically this Elecom or its sister, the Elecom EX-G Pro, which is built with the same upmarket components, including the ruby bearings. I decided to take the small risk. My Elecom HUGE is one of the good ones (or later ones, if it was a batch problem, now solved), with a creamy-smooth action on the trackball, feather light switches, one heavier switch just where I want it, and a slight stiction on the scroll-wheel which adds to the precision. You’ll see I gave five stars, so count me among the happy customers. If a finer grading were available, my rating would be 4-3/4 stars because one of the switches is too light for it to be ergonomic in that position — for me. Also, the mostly plain black styling with just the big metallic red trackball (diameter 52mm!) and a smidgin of chrome on the scroll-wheel, while intricate and extravagantly curved, in the eyes of an artist like me should have been further relieved of its blackness. So the quarter-star deduction is for personal ergonomic preferences and to mark an overdose of Japanese “professional” styling, a.k.a. too much bloody matt black, not fundamental faults. Obviously, I consider the Elecom HUGE good value for money; the nearest comparable Kensington costs twice as much and offers less. The HUGE is solidly built and feels like quality in the hand. I wonder, however, whether the self-skinned soft polypad which adds so much to the comfort of operating the HUGE will last the decade or more of hard use the rest of the trackball seems good for. (If the memory foam skin does wear while the trackball survives, I’ll glue on tan leather cut to shape.) The ergonomics are excellent, with large, huge and massive buttons, and would suit a hand of any size, including very large hands. The hand is spread across the big expanse of the aptly-named HUGE, with the thumb operating three of the buttons plus the four-function scroll wheel, including yet another button function, which I instantly allocated to the left click because it is heavier and louder than the other switches, in the instance of the left click a very good thing. An ergonomic error — for me anyway — was making one of the assignable buttons, the piano key under my little finger, as light as the others. The little finger is just not as controllable as the other fingers. In fairness, it must be said that the designer apparently intended the ring finger to operate this button, with the little finger being unallocated. I therefore assigned no function to this button. As a result I control the ball with my two middle fingers, which is another big win in precision, especially since the HUGE offers three resolutions (500, 1000, 1500dpi) selectable on-the-fly with a slider button under the thumb, so that you can make pixel-perfect adjustments on any size of screen, useful in making fine art or graphic design, indispensable in engineering work, and even in typing or editing when the cursor needs to be placed precisely but quickly every few seconds. I’ve also reassigned the default left-click thumb button to the Mac’s COMMAND modifier key (the propeller) because it is too easy to press such a large, responsive switch and get unwanted results if a direct action is assigned to it. This trackball is so customisable and feature-rich, it reminds me of nothing so much as a puppy eager to please. A word about the control assignment software: The earlier software has been rewritten and repackaged, including into English, and is now excellent, regardless of what you may read in the reviews here. It is easy to make the basic button assignments, and you can even use the trackball for gestures, similar to gestures on Apple’s Magic Mouse or Magic Trackpad. Counting the scroll-wheel’s click and tilt functions as buttons, there are ten buttons, which with the variations and the gesture programmer give no fewer than 160 possible functions. It is well worth spending some time reading the help files for the function allocation software accessible through the software dialogue box. For those with much more intricate needs (games players, perhaps?) I’ve also tested the HUGE with USB-Overdrive aftermarket peripheral management software (free with advertising, $20 without), which is potentially more powerful than Elecom’s free software, but only if you know what you’re doing. On the whole, I think most buyers of the HUGE will find Elecom’s layman-friendly software serves them well. So who is the Elecom M-HT1DRBK “HUGE” wireless trackball recommended for? I’m a writer, an editor, a typographer, an industrial designer, and a painter both in traditional media and digitally. In each of those avocations by itself Elecom’s HUGE would be worth the money and considerably more to me, so for each of them the trackball adds far more convenience than the trivial cost per job. Music and video editing, which I occasionally do, also uses the same facilities and speedy precision. The question isn’t really whether the HUGE is great value for money, but whether each individual buyer would get on better with the HUGE layout of the trackball on top and the scroll-wheel at the side, or with the reverse layout of the sister EX-G PRO, which has the scroll-wheel on top and the trackball at the side, which when you change over to the trackball is a straight transition from the common Microsoft-style mice with a consequent shorter learning curve. Personally, I think the trackball on top with the scroll-wheel on the side, as in the HUGE, offers the best ergonomics — and the learning curve was anyway pretty short. The Elecom M-HT1DRBK “HUGE” is definitely recommended.

So you are prob like myself. a firm lover of the Microsoft Trackball Explorer's. Having owned both versions of the MS trackball, i have always been a firm believer in them. in fact i have 4 at home. one in the workshop. the rest used for my normal PC. the thing is. they arent cheap.. even when brand new they were almost £80. and now because of the rarity of them, you find Brand new ones or 2nd hand but almost perfect ones for almost £200. Scary prices for a device.. Logitech made an alternative. personally i never like them. they were always the lesser of the brands out there. there was a couple of others, but they didnt last long in the scheme of things.. so when my last trackball was wearing out, i went on ebay and then Amazon looking for a new one. By Luck i found this Beasty.. Size wise its almost the same. the Ball is almost in the same place. but it looked really nice.. Programmable buttons, soft padding, Wireless. and CHEAP... well almost £40.. but for a trackball thats Cheap. SO ordered it. turned up today.. First thoughts.. Wow.. everything is in Chinese/japanese (made in China but i think its japanese branding) that matters not. has the dongle, has batteries.. 10 mins later its on the PC and running. right away its smooth.. like fluid smooth.. the ball is like nothing is there. it floats within the housing. the mouse icon glides effortless across the screen. i start flicking buttons.. its got some interesting defaults.. downloaded the latest software for it. so easy to program the extra options. first thing was to go and play some games on steam. which it handled without issues. flicking from screen to screen, was a breeze.. i think the Microsoft one has met its match. whilst i will keep my old ones. im going to buy a couple of these new HUGE ones. not just for spares, i have systems in the workshop and else where that i need one for.. So if you are looking at this, wondering if its worth getting hold of seeing as the Microsoft one has worn the bearings out, or the buttons have jammed up.. Go for it.. Well worth it

I spend the majority of my time at a workstation. While I never developed RSI from using a mouse, I bought this as an alternative option to switch back and forth between. The Huge is now my primary input device, and the mouse occasionally comes out when I want to rest my trackball fingers for a while. I really expected there to be more of a transition period needed while I got used to the trackball, but I took to it straight away. While my hands are average sized for a male, i fit comfortably on the device and can reach all of the buttons without reaching. The thumbwheel is responsive and the tactile bump provides just enough feedback without adding any notices or resistance. The device is large, but will sit stationary on your desk and will take less space than an average mouse user would need for swiping. The trackball is large, weighty and accurate. You can modify the sensitivity directly on the device using the high/med/low settings. The buttons are typical microswitch clicky. The left click is fairly loud, but not horrendous. The software is only OK. Unfortunately, it appears that you can't load the device with presets, but need to run the software in the systray for the extra button mappings to work. You do have a lot of scope for programming the buttons, but this was a bit of a letdown for me. I would have loved the device to have been bluetooth-enabled in order to be able to switch between computers. The 2.4GHz runs great, but you will need a free usb port for the receiver to be plugged in all the time. All in all, great device. Highly recommended for those

Working from home for 8+ weeks now, due to the Corona situation. I'm really starting to feel the strain of not being able to use an ergonomic chair, office desk etc. So I decided to see what other options where out there mouse wise. The Elecom Huge M-HT1DRBK Wireless, just might be the best invention since Coca Cola and BigMac. Difficult to master most definitely. I haven't used a wheel mouse in a lot of years. But this configurable wonder will become my best buddy and fast. I just have to relearn how to use it. When the manufacturer call the model Huge they weren't exaggerating. It's a monster. (Attached below is a picture of my Contour Unimouse, old Logitech G9 and the Elecom. So you can see just how big the mouse really is). I have big hands, but the mouse still fits my hand like a glove. Typically a standard mouse is just too short or not wide enough. The surface where you rest your palm on the Elecom, is cushioned and soft. The ball is big, but easy to use. After only a few minutes of use, you soon realize that you use completely different muscle groups and tendons, compared to a regular mouse. Relax and enjoy it. When you first start using it, I recommend you keep your old mouse connected as well. If you do, you'll be able to switch back and forth between the 2, and thus not put too much strain on your hands and tendons. Slowly get used to the new mouse. Playing around with settings trying to see what fits my needs. Love the fact that there are so many buttons. Only minor annoyance so far, is the placement of the scrollwheel.... BUT the vertical scroll is pure win!!

(Edited: they finally responded, but I didn’t see their messages till a month or two later. They had withdrew their help to resolve this. Nice. And here I was considering purchasing it again.) This is the perfect mouse when it works. The trackball allowed me to game and move much faster and without the need to pick up the mouse. They are easy to use and perfect for people with large hands. I cannot say enough about how I like the mouse. Unfortunately, I have had three of these break within months of purchasing them. They seemed to have fixed the dodgy bearing issue as the last one was much better and I found I didn't have to replace the bearings. I would happily repurchase it again if I knew it wasn't going to break within 2-4 months of use which is outside of the limited warranty. Directly contacting the manufacturer is a joke they won't respond. I cannot recommend anyone purchase it till they fix the longevity of their product.

I have been an avid trackball user ever since I purchased the original microsoft intellimouse trackball in 1997 (and the excellent microsoft trackball explorer thereafter). Since then I have probably owned just about every trackball ever produced and unfortunately over those years I have always been somewhat disappointed.....until now! The ELECOM M-HT1DRBK Trackball, or ELECOM HUGE as the manufacturer brands it, is just like the microsoft explorer trackball but so much better in every way due to all the extras and added memory foam comfort. If I could change anything, which was also my gripe with the trackball explorer to be fair, I would have liked the scroll wheel on the right (in between the 2 right buttons) like the original microsoft intelimouse trackball. Or just add one there so you have the choice and whichever one you use the other could be assigned to something else. If you are a trackball veteran, don't hesitate in purchasing this, it is outstanding - in features, quality and comfort! If you are new to trackballs, you cannot go wrong with this, there is nothing currently on the market that comes close to it (other than old school 2nd hand). If you have never used a trackball and thinking of trying one, again you cannot go wrong with this, just give it a week and you will never look back. The ELECOM HUGE Trackball gets a well-deserved 5 stars from me. Well done ELECOM, I sincerely do hope (please please) that you continue research & development or at the very least I hope you continue to manufacturer these for many years to come. Thank you. Tip for new and old users alike – if you want the ball a little more responsive and smoother, pop the ball out and polish it up with a little bit of furniture wax/polish, it will also stop any jumps and bounces too!

I have used several wireless trackball devices over the years, in search of one that ticks all the boxes for me and this is by far the best one I've used. I love it. It is actually massive, so the embossed 'HUGE' is very apt! My hands are big and it's perfect for me. Extremely comfortable, and the default button functions are great. I haven't tried the app to assign the f buttons and don't think I need to, but good to know the option is there if I need it or want to try a different layout. Only improvements would be to make it a rechargeable device, but I'm being picky! Highly recommended!

I badly wanted to like it but it failed me on several areas. - The ergonomic design was good in some ways but involved a wrist angle that made my RSI pains worse. -The buttons were plenty but felt cheap and inconsistent, not to mention badly placed. -The stiction issue is just no good, I intended to swap bearings but along with the pain I realised it was just wrong to have to replace them and void warrantee straight away. - good ball size, alas not as big as the Kensington Slimblade pro. Due to the angle moving the ball wasn't very comfortable. In the end I returned and was much happier with the Slimblade Pro. It might not be perfect but it's much better in build and function.

Everyday I had a constant pain in my right hand while using normal mouse. With Elecom Huge pain went away. Now my hand stay still and only fingers navigate cursor. I also like high quality Omron switches, clicks are feel really nice and satisfying. Build quality great! General advice for future users. Remove a ball once every week and clean three bearings inside. It’s super easy and take less than a minute. Also when you will get this trackball or after cleaning you might notice that ball doesn’t move smoothly, just roll ball in your hands couple of times. It will get a little grease from your palms and start roll smoothly.

Assolutamente in mio Trackball preferito. È stato necessario sostituire i cuscinetti in rubino, davvero poco scorrevoli, con cuscinetti in ceramica G5 da 2,5mm ed inserire degli spessori nella culla della sfera per permettere ai cuscinetti di roteare, per avere un movimento fluido e senza striction. Ovviamente serve un minimo di manualità, e la consapevolezza che cosi facendo si perde la garanzia (a me sembra un prodotto molto resistente, e sicuramente con un costo non eccessivo, quindi ne vale la pena), ma adesso è il TOP! Software molto personalizzabile; Forma ampia e comoda (ma questo può variare da mano a mano); Tanti pulsanti personalizzabili e ben raggiungibili; Scroll verticale preciso e con tilt scroll (quello orizzontale); Diversi livelli di DPI; Due livelli di precisione (immagino sia la potenza del segnare radio) io lo tengo al massimo e la batteria dura parecchio. Insomma, davvero soddisfatto. P.S. Evitate i trackball con sfera per il pollice, la scorrevolezza non dura da Natale a S.Stefano!

Lo mejor del trackball es la cantidad de botones que tiene (programables) y que el tacto al apoyar la palma es acolchado/gomoso. Se alcanza bien con manos grandes (es mi caso) a todos los botones y a la bola. El botón izdo, que es el que quedaría a la altura del pulgar es para mí algo incómodo de alcanzar/memorizar su posición, pero no mucho. El scroll se alcanza bien una vez tienes cogida la posición con el pulgar para el botón izdo. El botón dcho. también se hace un poco raro, pero hay dos en esa zona, luego puedes tener dos configuraciones diferentes (yo uso el más apartado para "suprimir" o para "cerrar ventana", según la aplicación). Por cierto, mención especial al botón del scroll porque tiene modo "tilt" y esto sí resulta bastante poco común (esto es que le puedes aplicar al scroll movimientos laterales también, vamos izda y dcha). Para ir al grano, si queréis detalles mirad el manual buscando en google 20180405_MSC-M-HT1DR_ALL_ver.1.pdf y si no os habéis cansado podéis seguir leyendo la review. Algo que no me gusta es que el fabricante te dice que desinstales los drivers de otros ratones que puedas tener instalados. Yo tengo varios que quiero seguir usando (como el M570 de Logitech) así que no lo hice, y me toca andar extrayendo e introduciendo de nuevo el pincho usb de este dispositivo en cada reinicio del PC (Windows 10) para que lo detecte (aunque los drivers no hay que volver a instalarlos ni me han dado conflictos). Por cierto, los drivers se descargan desde la página del fabricante a la que se puede llegar escaneando el qr-code de la parte inferior del dispositivo (ver imágenes). Sobre la resolución decir que permite varias velocidades (hasta 1500 dpi) y sensibilidades. Yo le pongo la sensibilidad H (parte inferior ratón, la L es para ahorro energía) y la resolución intermedia de 1000 dpi (en caso de una pantalla en 1080 te irá bien así, si tienes 4K o más pantallas o eres gamer tal vez quieras subirla). Así que ese nivel de personalización que permite adaptarse a diferentes configuraciones (resolución, pantallas, etc.) y usuarios (que vayan a supervelocidad o en modo tortuga) también está muy bien. Sobre la duración de las pilas dependerá de su capacidad y del uso, yo recomiendo ponerle recargables de unos 2500 mAh. para que puedan durar unos meses. La bola se puede extraer para limpiar el interior fácilmente (se introduce el dedo por la parte inferior del ratón y ésta sale haciendo presión, no por la propia gravedad). Hay que limpiar de vez en cuando la zona de alrededor de los rodamientos, pero sin obsesionarse. Los rodamientos podrían ser un poco más finos ya que ofrecen algo de resistencia, no mucha, esto va sobre gustos. En definitiva, un ratón muy original y completo (le sube el precio el tema de la logística desde Japón, así que no lo tendré muy en cuenta en la valoración). Si te gustan los trackballs como a mí es uno de los que merecen la pena tener en la colección.

ロジクールのTM-400を愛用して来ましたが、後継品が出ずに嘆いていた者です。 同じ３本指（玉が小さいので2本指ですかね？）タイプのDEFTも購入しましたが、どうにも納得出来ずにいました。 しかしこのHUGEは玉がデカイ！TM-400よりもデカイ！！ 操球感も抜群！メッチャ気持ちいい！！（ポンコツになってしまったTM-400と比べて） そしてカーソルが早い！超早い！デュアルディスプレイの端から端まで一転がし！！（スイッチでいつでも3段階に調整可能） なのに3本の指でボールを保持して細やかに動かすのも自在！！玉に触れてなきゃクリックでカーソルがブレることもない！ 大玉最高！！マウスなんていらんかったんや！！！！ と、本当にべた褒めしたくなる製品です。 右クリックが細長くて押しにくいと書いてらっしゃる方もいますが、私の持ち方だとボールに掛けた薬指の側面で 常時押せるので抜群に具合がいいです。が、形状やボタンの配置が独特な製品なので、店頭で実物を触ってみるのをお勧めします。 残念な点としては、低反発素材のパームレストですかね！？慣れてきたのでそんなに悪く無いかなー、とも思いますが、 DEFTと似たような無難な形状にして、脱着可能なクッションを付けておけば良かったと思います。 あと、スクロールホイールの質感が凄くショボい（ロジクールの無段階～クリック切り替え機能付きのホイールと比べて） のも気になります、が、些細な事はどーでも良いのです！ 親指型しか出さない奴等ではなく、エレコムさんを応援します！！ありがとう！！ 操作に慣れてきたのでマウスアシスタント5もいろいろ触ってみました。 使うソフトウェアごとに操作を割り当てられる上、マウスジェスチャにも対応しており非常に使いやすいです。 私はJWCADで使う時には、進むを中央クリック、戻るをESCにしています。 ホイールを一定回数早回しすることで自動送りが始まる機能も、細かく設定できて悪くないです。 ますます好きになったのでもう1台買い足そうと思います。 追記 結局有線のM-HT1URXBKを2台買い足しました。 余ったこいつは車のドアに脱着出来るように加工してしまいました。 運転席のハンドルに取り付けるテーブルの上にノートPCを置いて、ドアの肘置きに大玉トラックボール! HUGEがあれば図面も車でスイスイ書けてしまいます!! これこそマウスには絶対真似のできない芸当であって、トラックボールの完全勝利と言えましょう!!
