but (and this is a big but) they taste pretty awful. Very sickly sweet
They did so the job and help me with speeding up the healing of my ulcer, but (and this is a big but) they taste pretty awful. Very sickly sweet. I had previously bought Dgl from the high Street at Holland and Barrett where it was pretty expensive (but tasty). I decided to save a few pennies by buying this. The fact it is half the price is its only saving grace from the terrible taste.

This ended up making my esophagitis worse. Thanks
I used this to treat esophagitis from reflux, as licorice root is supposed to heal the esophagus and promote regeneration of the mucus lining. I don't know who designed this product, because they put XYLITOL in it, which RELAXES THE ESOPHAGEAL SPHINCTER, causing MORE acid to enter the esophagus. Zero thought went into that obviously. So yeah. This ended up making my esophagitis worse. Thanks.

Warning-Forumula Change-Do not use if artificial sweeteners upset your stomach
I used to buy these all the time, but they had a formula change that includes artificial sweeteners like Sorbitol. I had been taking these to help heal my stomach lining from ulcers, and I think they were working very well until this change. The sweeteners give me a stomach ache anytime I have tried to take it. I tried taking them and then refraining for a few days, and every time I took one, I would have a stomach ache that lasted 24 hours or more, but would always go away if I stopped taking them. I tried to see if it was anything else in my diet doing it, and it was consistently the DGL. I am Very disappointed, these were a staple of my healing process, and I have had to stop taking it entirely. Too many other DGL products on Amazon also add these artificial sweeteners. If you have zero issues with these ingredients, then you can probably use this safely. But for me, it caused me issues every time, since they made that change.

Need a Replacement for Enzymatic Therapy DGL?
This is a good alternative to the Enzymatic Therapy brand since EZ lowered the amount of licorice in their new formula. This tastes decent and works just as well as the old Enzymatic Therapy DGL.

HUGE FORMULA CHANGE... DO NOT BUY!!!!
I've been dealing with moderate to severe acid reflux and gastritis for awhile. Natural Factors DGL has been a staple of my regime for all that time. Until now.I just got a delivery and they have made some absolutely horrid formula changes. I can deal with the fact that product tastes absolutely terrible now (if you thought it tasted bad before....) and has a chalk like consistency due to the new formula, but what I cannot deal with is all the ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS they have packed into it now. Added to the ingredient list is Stevia Leaf and Xylitol. WHY?! Stevia is known to not be particularly great on the digestive tract.. So WHY would you put it in the formula of an item for people with DIGESTIVE ISSUES?I personally have a serious issue digesting stevia products and I can already feel my stomach aching within 10 minutes of taking this product, instead of the usual relief I've depending on Natural Factors to provide for years.Anyway, just thought I'd give other customers a heads up of this product change. For me, it's a deal breaker. If you have stomach issues (I assume you do if you're taking this product) it should probably be a deal breaker for you too. Research stevia's effect on the digestive tract and choose a brand that isn't cutting costs by making your condition worse.

Product Description is Wrong! Now contains ANISE Powder- YUCK!
Wish I had read these one-star reviews about the formula change before ordering. The item description shows the old ingredient label, not the new one. I used to love this stuff when it was unflavored. It tasted like real licorice, which I actually like. But now they've added Anise powder and Stevia to make it taste like the American version of licorice candy, which I hate. I'm one of those people for whom Stevia tastes incredibly bitter, and I absolutely hate Anise. Amazon was great about issuing me a refund. Shame on Natural Factors for A. ruining a great product, and B. not updating their product description and label.
