Linux Device Drivers Development: Develop customized drivers for embedded Linux Paperback – 20 Oct. 2017

In the Kindle edition parts of the book appear as a single column of characters with nothing else on the page making those sections unreadable. Not a lot of use for such an expensive book (example, location 2355). I have tried on multiple readers. I wouldn't recommend the Kindle edition until this issue is fixed.

Awful, awful book. Let's be clear, the author clearly knows his/her stuff. And the topics and contents are admirably up to date and pretty impressive. But by heck if you're a beginner kernel developer (which I guess is the target audience!) you're going to have a hell of a time making sense of the topics. As others have eluded to, it lacks basic structure and explanation logic. Example code is confusing. Syntax is poor. The author has no grasp of how to introduce the reader to complex topics and BUILD UP THE KNOWLEDGE in a logical manner. Compare with the way the classic text "Linux Device Drivers" by Corbet and Rubini (sadly wildly out of date now) is written. The author could learn a lot from that book. The proof-reader must have taken the money and run. How this text made it past basic quality control at Packt is a mystery. Harsh but apt description of this book. Having covered Ch 4, 5, 6, 14,15 I have had to heavily supplement my research from a lot of other resources to simply make sense of what the book is trying to convey. There is a lot of up to date information in here, no doubt; some small nuggets you will likely not find in any other book. Just be prepared to spend a lot of time scratching your head and stopping yourself from throwing this out the window. GOOD LUCK.
