This book is a key resource that explains step by step, the essential skills required to rigorously construct and quality assure Logical Data Models. It also defines the processes required for organisations to successfully adopt them, and so align their systems, operations and strategic direction. In the last decade, Data Models have made the transition from being ad-hoc and limited in scope, to becoming a central pillar of the Enterprise Data Architectural landscape. Arguably they are now more important than ever. It is only with a full and agreed understanding of the โWhat?โ, โWhen?โ and โHow?โ of an organisationโs data structures and flows, that we can, for example; contemplate plugging COTS products together, implement in the Cloud, ingest data into our Data Lakes, or report across the Enterprise system landscape. No technical background is required to gain a full benefit from the book, it and is relevant for all organisations and data realms. It provides numerous explanations, examples, check lists and templates to provide the reader with a wealth of practical material that will speed their ability to start data modelling effectively and confidently. Review: Great organisation of the key ideas - Having worked as a data architect supported by a big team of complementary data specialists, Iโm about to embark on a solo data transformation... I had hoped this book might help organise the methodology, and itโs perfect! The writing is sympathetic and straightforward. Deep understanding of the subject really only comes with application, but this book is full of aides memoires to keep those lessons in focus, and support to diagnose why your data model (and the architecture based on it) broke down. Great reference. Review: Data Modelling book for grown-ups! - A data modelling book that tells it how it is. The author takes a step by step approach to explain how each aspect of data modelling adds on the previous to build sophisticated models. It is obvious from the explanations and detail that it is based upon actual experience rather than just the standard modelling explanations that are often database focussed. It contains a lot of check lists that I find gives me confidence in tackling data modelling at work.

A must have for Data Architects
Very easy to understand, clearly written and interesting. I have just started a new job as a Data Architect and this has really helped me explain the basics to others and help me understand the more complex sides to it

Great Book for every Data Modeller aspirant
This book is amazing for any one wants to gain Data Modelling skills. Its thorough book focussing not only on skills but approaches, alternatives, best practices. Most of the examples are taken from the real world corporate companies and will definitely make sense for anyone already working with data. There are plenty of tips and concepts even an expert modeller would find useful.

A Good Intro to Data Modeling
I'm new to the world of data modeling, and this was a great book to get me started. My only complaint is that at least 1/2 of the book is focused on the *process* of working with an *organization* (e.g. people - stakeholders, SMEs, teams, managers, etc.) from the perspective of an outsider (e.g. a consultant) that needs to learn what data their company really has/needs/relies on, and how to work with those folks step-by-step to create and deliver data models. While that's clearly an important and useful skillset (even for an internal employee undertaking this same kind of modeling work), it's a lot more about working with people than actually understanding effective techniques and patterns for the act of developing the data models themselves. I would have preferred to have many more real-world examples (case studies, and the models that were produced), to help me get better at what is ultimately the core required skill, imho (producing models, not managing relationships/project planning/etc.). I took 2 stars off for my above complaint, plus the fact that there are a few too many sloppy editorial oversights in this book for me to ignore (usually these were words that were erroneously out of order or repeated in a sentence (typos, of a sort)) - which were a distraction that inhibited my comprehension at times. Otherwise, it's a great intro book!

Would definitely recommend.
There's something in here for all levels of skill and experience. The Author does a great job presenting key points and covers a large subject area in a concise manner.
