It's always been a delightful experience to hear Lisa Gerrard sing the beautiful sounds she creates with her enchanting voice.Coupled with the great Hans Zimmer it was a given that the music score of Gladiator was going to win awards and so it did picking up best original score in the Golden Globes and BAFTA.For me Lisa Gerrard is the sound behind the success of this collaboration and the atmosphere she brings to the score is spine tingling.I once had to undergo a life threatening operation alone in a foreign country with nobody I knew closer than nearly six thousand miles away. As I was taken to the operating theatre I was permitted to have my MP3 player and I was comforted to listen to Lisa Gerrard singing "Sanvean" with Dead Can Dance. If heaven had taken me at that time I'm sure it would be full of incredible sounds like this. Check out her singing it live on youtube "Lisa Gerrard (Dead Can Dance) - Sanvean"Gladiator as a collaboration works really well and if you have seen the film you can easily imagine scenes from it as you listen to the music. When you play the album I suggest you play the tracks in sequence and with a player that allows "uninterrupted" transition between tracks. This is especially important for the last 3 tracks that can be played in sequence to create more than eight minutes of naturally flowing music that brings the story to a sad but ultimately liberating conclusion.Amazing, emotional and an epic story told in a most passionate collaboration of sounds and composers. Thoroughly recommended and sure to leave an impression on you.

ok everybody has said here what a fabulous soundtrack this is ,i would not disagree,however we have to say that the main themes owe a massive debt to holst.the battle etc etc is a blatant plagarism of the track Mars from holst,s the planet suite.as i was sat listening to this on my ipod i had to check what was actualy playing on there on many occasions.now i know that in the world of music and in pop/rock particular many artists have been taken to court e.g. george harrison with my sweet lord etc etc for plagarism and in the 60,s many of the u.k r & b bands like the yardbirds/rolling stones etc simply took an existing trad. blues song from say willie dixon or blind lemon jefferson etc etc and just changed 3 words and the title and claimed the song as their own.take dazed and confused by led zep ,it is a pure rip of dazed and confused from the album" the above ground sound of " jake holmes.ok the lyrics about soul of woman etc etc were added but the whole song was a blatant rip.most of their 1st 2 albums were exactly the same with willie dixon rips everywhere.so why in these enlightened times do we still have this going on- i checked the cd sleeve and there is no mention or thanks to holst anywhere- it says all music written by hans zimmer apart from .....the other pieces by lisa gerrard etc etc no mention of holst not even a debt of gratitude.in the world of hip hop or sampling it is sacrosanct NOT to acknowledge our original sound sample source so why not here ?moans aside the music is very powerful as others have said but for me it is spoiled by this ommision.the winning pieces are of course those involving the voice of lisa gerrard.this woman is the most inventive female artist bar none.you can take all your lily allens,duffys,winehouses etc etc ( all this weeks models so to speak ) but lisa has had for over 4 decades now the most amazing voice ,on a par with an instrument in its own right,she improvises most of the time going with the mood/flow of the underlying sounds.if you like the vocal tracks then may i suggest you then go and investigate all the back catalogue of lisa ( silver tree in particular ) and then dead can dance.a whole new world opened up to me which i have embraced with open arms ( ears ).inspirational for that alone.lolrichard p.

I will give this music five stars. Number one, Hans Zimmer in my opinion, creates some of the greatest film scores that have ever been produced.. I enjoy listening to a good film score occasionally. When l am in that mood. They are tomorrow's classics. It makes a change from modern music. My taste is varied. I like heavy and light metal, current and past pop, opera, classical and calm. Some blues but not every tune in those groups or every singer. I dislike modern jazz, rap, etc. This brings memories of a great film back with Russell Crow a brilliant actor and perfectly cast for that role. Worth a listen.

Un vinile davvero molto bello in edizione colorata. Sicuramente il prezzo è molto onesto vista la qualità della registrazione delle canzoni e la qualità di questa grande colonna sonora. Sicuramente, sarò curioso di scoprire la colonna sonora del “Gladiatore II”. Nel frattempo consiglio l’acquisto assolutamente di questo capolavoro, visto anche il prezzo davvero modico.
