Poolology - Mastering the Art of Aiming

I bought this as a gift for a friend who loves to play pool but was in the hospital for a few weeks. I knew he’d want to spend the time reading and when I saw this book , I just had to get it for him. He tells me that he has many books on playing pool but this one seems to have many more useful tips on making difficult shots.

I needed a mathematical way to aim and finally found it. I’m still working on the Zone C and Side pocket aiming, but Zones A and B are pretty easy to learn! This will help me learn the angles so I just see them some day.

May be complicated at first due to memorization, but understanding the principle is simple. Consistency is guaranteed because it's based on math. This would be a good book for anyone wanting to learn or improve his pool game.

Really simplifies a lot of shots. If you buy this book you need to set up the example shots to see how accurate the system works. My table is a 9 ft Brunswick and if it works on 9 ft it's going to be that much more accurate on 7 ft bar box. It really helps me on back cut shots and shots along short rail.You aren't aiming at some vague point , you are aiming at an exact point.

Brian’s method uses the diamonds to determine what percentage of the ball to hit. For example, in a matter of minutes, you can easily determine a 1/2 ball hit - which comes up an amazing number of times. For me, this takes away the aiming problem and allows me more time to think of what I want the Cueball to do as well as concentrate more on my stroke.The system can be used to determine the whole range of hits from, say, 1/8 to 7/8, too. I personally use it in combination with other aiming methods.There are some exceptional shots that require more complicated calculation. If it’s too much or if there is a time issue, I revert solely to my old aiming methods.I highly recommend for players of all levels as it becomes another tool in a player’s “bag”.

I have a table in my home and play regularly there. I've bought elephant balls, read Precision Pool, have some videos blah blah...but I would still bend over a shot and find when I got there I just could not see the line, I didn't know where to aim. It takes a little bit of work (not too much) to get it but you start seeing results immediately. When I bend over a shot now I know exactly where to aim. I may chalk a little longer as i figure my target line but when I bend over I line up and shoot with confidence and make way more shots then I ever have. This system enables me to make the "easy shots" I hated to miss but even more so to make shots I use to give myself a bye for missing "ah well, hard shot". Knocking the balls in is fun! Lastly I know this guy isn't reigning World 9 Ball Champion or anything like that, but in golf the swing gurus the pros turn to aren't actually playing on the tour they are just the guys who can help and instruct better then anyone else. For me this Guy Brian Crist is that guy.

I am a beginner in pool. At first glance, I have an open mind, but I'm not convinced I'll end up relying on this method as my primary reference. We'll see as I put some effort into it. However, I already appreciate the perspective of seeing the shot as a ball percentage both from the aiming reference and 2d visual reference. That's already changed my thinking.The other thing I think is really important for me is that as I've learned to aim, I've been mixing that problem with body alignment, stance, stroke, and visual alignment and perspective. I've struggled with the latter quite a bit because I'm right handed but very left eye dominate. I'd practice a cut shot. I'd estimate an aim point, but then I would end up changing my aim point to compensate for all the rest of it. I had already concluded that was a jumbled mess where I can't count on anything consistent.At first glance, this book is going to put an end to that. Now I'll be picking a very clear cut quantifiable aim point, and I'll be adjusting everything else to make that work. I think that's going to help me a lot.The book is well written and easy to read and understand. Just those couple of things I listed above and there's a lot of wisdom and good advice added in, that makes it worth buying. I'll definitely be spending some time with this.

A great book and a quick read!!! The first I heard of Poolology was on Brians' youtube channel. His videos were well done, simple to understand. He often referenced the Poolology book so I decided to go ahead and order it and add it to my library. Poolology is easy to read and understand. Brians' concepts are expertly laid out in the book and are made so simple to apply that it takes all the guesswork out of aiming any pool shot. This book along with Brians' videos have led to remarkable advancements in my game. Learning to use reference points of the pool table to aim my shots simplified the game for me so much so that I can now focus on cueball position instead of worrying only about making my shot. I wish I had read Poolology 20 years ago. I highly recommend this book to any person who is serious about improving their game. Thanks, Brian!!!

Very easy to read and relate to the pool table, with excellent diagrams. Would recommend to people struggling with the line of aim!

Explains things so well

This book shows you very easily how to aim for nearly every shot on the table in a simple way and with some practice it should up your game considerably, it uses the fraction system ie 1/2 ball hit 1/8th ball hit etc so only get this if you like the fraction aiming system.

Sometimes you aren't quite sure if you are at a half ball hit give or take. This system help you make a better choice on what angle to shoot. Great aiming tools to add to your arsenal.
