This is a beautiful Chess set at a great price! The pieces are big and substantial, and also weighted. They have a felt bottom for easy, move ability. The King is 1 1/4” tall and has a wide base at 1 3/4” so almost a 2 inch base. The cardboard chess board is beautiful at18.5” and I think is a great travel board. The chess pieces are worth every penny at $49.00. So I considered the chess board a freebie! I bought my own real wood board, made of inlaid Burlewood and Ebonywood with a diamond border pattern that I also found on Amazon. The board is a 21” board with 2.24 inch squares which is perfect for these chess pieces. It was under $100 and looks like it was made for this set. I would highly recommend this set as the chess pieces alone are worth more than $49 in my opinion. AAA+++ All the way!

I looked all over for an inexpensive and quality chess set. I kept returning to this one and eventually made the purchase. I'm always so pleased when the descriptions match the actual product. The pieces are beautiful and are of solid quality and a nice weight. I really like that there are two burlap-style bags (brown and black) to store the pieces. My buddy and I play all the time and absolutely love this set!

Worth the money

I'm a Sr Citizen & this Chess Set is heavy!!! The Chess Pieces are solid; larger than normal; larger than I ever seen or imagined...I started laughing when I saw the size of the Pawns. We Sr Citizens won't have a problem looking across the room to find these! lol...they're abnormally large...EXTREMELY LARGE, but TRULY GEORGEOUS & EXCELENT QUALITY!!!! The Chessboard was a turn-off for me. It folds in four. Because of that, I don't foresee longevity in the Chess Board. Personally, I don't see the need in paying $43.00 for this set & replacing the Chessboard later, I chose to pay a little more for a good quality Chess Set! I'm giving it 4-Stars only for the Chess pieces!

I'm no connoisseur, believe me, but these look like they are expertly crafted and pricy. I would have bought less expensive chess pieces, but I didn't find anything between cheap looking and these. After the $43 I paid for these, came the well over $100 fellas. My understanding is that these are made of zinc alloy and covered with a plastic shrink-wrap that looks like polished stone or expensive wood...to me. They really look beautiful! As others have noted, they come with an okay looking, folding cardboard chessboard. It's handsome, but looks like what it is (not as nice as in the photos). So, I bought a nice wooden one for $65. With tax, I shelled out less than $120. Everything looks durable and very nice. It looks so good, I'll leave it out all the time, unless the cat decides the chessmen are his toys. Although I don't think he can damage them. Looking forward to playing with my g.f. soon.

It’s a nice set for the money, pieces are of a nice size and a nice weight. the pieces are more of a black than the gray and black shown in the ad picture. The board is just cardboard, but it’s nice looking and should work for a while.
