Is it just liquid inside or a sponge type brush cleaner?

It is exactly like a piece of soap cast in the box. What you do is wet your brush (with water at room temperature, regardless of the medium - I am talking about the mediums I used) and rub it against it; then rinse the brush and, if needed, repeat; when you are ready you can rinse the soap too, but it's supposed to be clean by now. The results are astonishing even with old paint. I used it against oil paints, watercolor and Chinese ink. It worked admirably in all situations. Also tried some German artists' soaps that are also effective but not as fast and impressive as this one. German ones are more cost effective but it does takes a bit longer to clean your brush. Both are very forgiving with the brushes, no problem here. Hope it helps.

Yes. It is. I use it on natural bristle brushes all the time, its excellent for keeping them like new. A little tip - when you've washed your brush leave just a hint of soap on it; you can rinse this off before you use it next time.
