How do you use this on the dc plug side? Mine keeps popping out of socket, not sure what these red caps and red poker is for.

If you disassemble the 12 volt socket head, you can remove the little spring and then compress the spring with some pliers and it will be much less likely to come out by itself. Just me careful not to lose the spring while compressing it, it might go flying! I have done this to a couple of my cables, works great!

What is the red cap for? Is it just for shipping protection?

I purchased this cord to use with my portable diesel heater for winter camping. The heater (toolbox style) has a 12v fridge connector for power and the 12v plug cable that came with it is rather flimsy and kept falling off the 12 v cigarette socket...which can spell disaster if the diesel heater loses power while it's running. I have purchased this cable before (for a 12v fridge) and the plug is very good and doesn't come off easily out of the cigarette 12v socket. Definitely recommend for your 12v needs!!
