I'm not perfectly sure it would stand my weight if I fell, but it stabilizes me on the steps

The right angle bracket makes it more sturdy than a flat bracket. It mounts with 5 screws. You may need to use a drill bit that is a size up. I had an issue with the phillips screw heads stripping because the hole was too tight to screw into. Screws may be too soft of an alloy. Otherwise, the product looks really nice.

Liked the fact that the screws come in from two different planes. Took off a star since the fastening hardware provided was not hardened and the screw heads stripped off when driving into a drilled stud.

I wanted an outside rail WITHOUT a post. First one turned out to be wrong hand as there were no instruction on deciding what was left and what was right. HINT: you need to be at the bottom looking up to determine that. And for some reason the Right hand rail was not as good a fit as the left that pointed skyward so we needed to use a block. So installation was a hassle thanks to weird quirks in design. But the rail works great and no dogs or children will get brained on a post.

I orderd these handrails as a pair. Once installed I noticed, they slop down at different angle.The left side slops down at 15 deg. and the right side slops at 20 deg.. Both are mounted at the same height at the top end, but the one on the right is 2" lower then the left at the bottom end.They are well constructed and seem to be sturdy, but should be manufactured as a matching pair with the same angle slop for both sides.

We use these handrails every time we go into the house or garage. They are sturdy and a great safety item for us senior citizens.
