An Excellent, Economical Particle Filter to Enhance the Lifespan of Downstream Filter Systems

This review is for the iSpring WSP-50 particle filter that is used on city water. The iSpring 50-micron filter serves as frontline protection for my 3M Whole Home Sysem with scale protection. The two have been online for 6 months (since mid-August). After 6 months use, I believe that am in a good position to judge the attributes of the iSpring filter.First, the iSpring is very forgiving for those who forget to open the value to clean it out. I went nearly 4.5 months without rinsing out the system. I show a picture of the iSpring just before I cleaned it for the first time. Yuk! During the initial 4.5 months, I experienced no loss of water pressure, which I find amazing. Again, I am on city water, so most large particulates are likelly removed. Your results would undoubtedly vary, especially if you are on well water. But clearly, the iSpring WSP-50 did its job.Our main water problem is preventing corrosion and scale build up. We ran a water softener for decades that worked well. Unfortunately, its consumables (salt) were costing us nearly $300 per year, and that is not counting water that is wasted during the softening process. The softener finally quit working last summer, and it was time for different solition. Hence, I got the iSpring WSP-50 and 3M whole home system. I bring this up as iSpring has another spindown filter for comparable cost:, the iSpring WSP-50SL Reusable Whole House Spin Down Sediment Water Filter Softener. The WSP-50SL Includes Siliphos, which supposedly helps soften water and lessens scale and corrosion build up. If I was aware of the iSpring WSP-50SL, I would have installed it instead of the iSpring WSP-50. Unfortunately, swapping the iSpring WSP-50SL for the iSpring WSP-50 is not a seamless change, and I would require a plumber to install the WSP-50SL.In conclusion, the iSpring WSP-50 is an excellent pre-filter to protect a downstream whole home system. If scale build up from hard water is a problem in your home, the iSpring WSP-50SL might be your best bet for a similar cost. I believe that you cannot go wrong with either choice.

Excellent flow rate

I've seen some people complain about the flow rate of this filter but they pretty much all have one thing in common - well water. This filter is great for city water. But it's probably too small for well water with all the sediment and particulate matter in it. I know the times we live in are expensive and we're all looking for a deal. Basically we want something for nothing but that's not how the world works. You can't expect this size filter to do the job of the iSpring WSP100ARJ-BP which is the size of a small child. And no I'm not kidding. I had to carry it with two hands because it is that big. I ordered that filter because I wanted the automatic flushing system and the different size micron filter screens that are available but it was way more than what I needed. It is a large and very robust filter, plus it has a metal bypass dial on top so you still can have uninterrupted water flow to your home while servicing the filter. Incidentally, if you purchase the WSP100ARJ-BP do yourself a favor, have an extra filter ready to go so you can just exchange the filter and wash the dirty one at your leisure. I know the WSP100ARJ-BP is more expensive and especially if you add another filter but with what we pay for groceries and gas today, isn't your water just as important. Maybe cut back on the $7 dollar coffees and the lottery tickets that you never seem to win, and invest in the WSP100ARJ-BP.Besides, small filters, regardless of manufacturer, can't handle most well water. You need something larger. You don't bring a knife to a tank battle. The WSP100ARJ-BP is the tank of choice for well water. Maybe iSpring WSPARB can work too but if it was my family, I'd use its big brother WSP100ARJ-BP. While the WSPARB does have the automatic flushing available, you don't have many different size micron filters available.I know some people switch from the 50 micron filter to the 200 or even a 500 micron filter due to a loss of water pressure and because the 50 micron filter plugs up much quicker than a 200 or a 500 micron filter but you're just letting in more sediment and particles into your home's working water which is bad for your faucets, fixtures, and your family. Regardless of micron size the overall SIZE (length and width) of the WSP filter is just too small. Source water pressure at my house is 72psi. After the softener and this WSP 100 micron filter I'm at 70psi. So, it's not the product that's the problem. You undersized your filtration needs because you wanted the WSP filter to do the same job as the WSP100ARJ-BP and it just can't when your well water is just clogged up with sediment and other unwanted contaminants. A big filtration job calls for a big filter or even multiple filters. So how's my experience with this filter going so far? In a word, great.First, I'm using it as a post filter. I know that sounds counterintuitive to it's function but I put it on after my water softener just before the water enters the house because water softeners have resins beads inside them for the ion exchange process, and sometimes water softeners can become damaged in shipping or they're just defective from the factory. If those resin beads come out of the water softener, they can go throughout your whole house's plumbing, and this is not a fun job nor a cheap job to remedy. Just ask a plumber. So, if my water softener fails, resin beads will only clog up this filter and go no further.Second, this filter is working great. I've had it working for a while now with no issues. I like that the main body is made of metal. It came with all the necessary parts including the bracket that the filter hangs on and the wrench for taking the filter housing off.Third, the customer service and support has been outstanding even before I bought this filter here at Amazon. There are two phone numbers at 123filter.com. If I get the answering machine at one, I'll call the other. I usually get through the first time but if I don't, they actually return calls if you leave a message. I know how important customer service is and if I experience bad customer service and/or support, I dump the company. I also wouldn't waste my time writing a long review like this on a company that treated me like a welcome mat. Sean at 123filter has been patient, insightful, and has answered all my questions before and after being a customer.

Excellent First Stage Filter

I'm absolutely thrilled with my iSpring filter installation. Being on a private well, we had our state test our water and it passed with flying colors. However, we had a particulate problem that frequently clogged faucet aerators and caused problems with our ice maker.I researched a variety of systems and read reviews that often cited leakage problems; sometimes several months after the installation. Upon closer evaluation, it was obvious some systems were simply not designed robustly enough. The iSupply system we decided to buy is designed VERY well. Even the plumber I contracted was surprised by what he called "industrial quality."The installation was a breeze and having a clear spin-down filter in the front of the system is perfect. It is very easy to clean and see if sediment or scaling is present. After this photo was taken I ran a 3/8" surgical hose to the nearby laundry sink to make it even easier. As a precaution, I had the plumber install a valve system that would enable me to bypass / totally drain the filter system as a precaution. What made this whole process particularly easy and pleasant is the quality and responsiveness of iSuppy's technical support. I worked closely with John who helped me specify the system and quickly corrected me when I sent him a drawing of how I intended to install. As John advised, it is critical to install the filter system on a well supply after the pressure tank. This complicated my installation somewhat and is the reason I decided to contract a professional plumber, but it is necessary to maximize the life of the well pump.Thank you VERY much for providing a high quality system and even more for your wonderful customer support!
