A known replacement

I had this item previously and it broke. I liked the way it worked so I bought another to take its place.

Great - revised to 5 stars

----ORIGINAL REVIEW "Great, but Broken" 3 stars----I use mine with CAC on one side, facility badge on other. When using facility badge dozens of times a day, I did not have to ever remove the CAC first to avoid misreads or even point the facility badge the correct direction at readers - the facility badge was always able to be read without interference from the CAC. However, while my previous badge holder (cheap & free, always had to remove one badge for the other to work) lasted 3 years before breaking, this holder lasted less than 4 months. The SkimSafe FIPS 201 did work as expected in shielding one card from the other, but I had to be careful with the CAC because it was removed and replaced in the badge holder many times a day for systems access. I found that once or twice I did not push it in the holder enough to make a solid click noise, resulting in it later falling out of the holder. This prompted me to change habits so that after sliding it back into the badge holder, I gently push the card back and forth a couple of times (like I do with CDs or DVDs in their trays) to ensure that it is placed properly. As a result of it breaking so quickly, I am reluctant to buy another. I do not see any indication that the two thin "slots" a lanyard can be clipped to (either for vertical or horizontal orientation) are stronger now.I am looking at the few remaining RFID-blocking alternatives to this holder to try out from other mfrs. Unfortunately, the lanyard slots on those don't look very sturdy either!----1/14/2013 UPDATE "Great - revised to 5 stars"----After writing this review, I searched around and did not find an unbreakable solution that worked for me as well as a SkimSafe FIPS 201. All other mfr options also had thin pieces of plastic to be the weak link. The SkimSafe did allow me to roam the halls swiping at one entrance-way after another without one badge obscuring the RFID response from the other badge (this might be oversimplifying it, but the two cards back-to-back or front-to-back in my older holder had this type of an issue). While I contemplated purchasing a new badge holder from another mfr (Identity Stronghold), I decided to give the SkimSafe another try as well as contact the vendor (SpecialistID) to voice my opinion about the weakness of the plastic to clip the lanyard to.As usual, I received my newly ordered SkimSafe FIPS 201 from Amazon in short order. I also entered into an enlightening back-and-forth email discussion with Patrick at SpecialistID over the following week. Hence, my revised review bumping this up from 3 stars to 5 stars.Patrick (who also appears to do the YouTube product demos for SpecialistID) made several points in his multiple emails:1. SpecialistID does not actually manufacture the SkimSafe, so that changes in manufacturing were not going to happen;2. He offered to replace the SkimSafe with another SkimSafe or their Rigid Shielded 2-Card Holder 1840-5081;3. He has not had issues with the item breaking;4. He recommended that using the holder with a softer strap clip end would help.**Bingo!!** The light came on for me! I had failed to recognize that by attaching the steel clip of the badge reel to the SkimSafe instead of attaching the soft rubber strap, any time my badge caught on the edge of a desk, the plastic where the metal clip attached to was a break waiting to happen. Problem solved if I changed it around. Not only was Patrick nice enough to replace my broken one, he also sent me a badge reel to try out (Key-Bak), which was his "favorite and toughest holder, made in America, with lifetime mfr warranty", and a lanyard with a built-in badge reel. I hope to try these out in upcoming weeks.----5/5 stars if you are looking for a badge holder that holds two badges that easily allows badges to be inserted or removed but secure from falling out (as mentioned in my 2nd paragraph of original review), and also reasonably blocks one badge from interfering from another. If you need total RFID blockage (prevent RFID antennas from polling cards without you knowing it) by requiring cards to be removed from holder before being useable, check out SpecialistID's Rigid Shielded 2-Card Holder 1840-5081.

Brittle

This does block the RFID signal pretty well. I had to be real close to read it, but the tab slot used to connect it to the lanyard I was using broke super easily. I only wore it a couple of weeks before the first one broke. The second tab lasted 3 weeks more. Not sure what’s worse. Getting the RFID skimmed or losing the card. Either way it’s not as durable as I expected it to be. For the price I paid I expected a bit more than 5 weeks.

The RFID Doesn't work and it broke pretty fast

I purchased four of these at the same time. Three for co-workers, one for me. On all three of them, almost immediately upon putting in an ID card, the same "tab" broke off. It was the bottom left one on the side that has 4 little tabs to hold the card in place. I found it odd all four had the same problem and exact same spot broke off. It still hold the work badges in place with the other three tabs however. Te side with two long tabs (shown in the produt picture) works very well for holding the card in place without issues. However, the product also states it is "RFID Blocking" which is the main reason I purchases these. At my office we have 2 ID cards (Our Office ID card and our Vendor ID card). A few of us have an additional Entry card for another local office as well, but this isn't a standard. I placed the two ID cards together (both work off RFID of course) and tried to enter. The problem has always been that these two signals cause interference and can't be used together if they're side by side, so hence the RFID blocking. The cards still interfered with each other and wouldn't work despite the RFID blocking device. Now, the vendor badge is a bit more "robust" and they do have a much stronger badge, so I decided to try it with two cards that I know are on the same level. I then swapped out the Vendor card for the entry card to the other building (which also had the problem of being the same type of signal and preventing use together). Again, there was no RFID block. The cards interacted exactly as if they were just sitting in the same plastic "bag" and would not work together. I've had the other three try their's as well, with the same results. It doesn't appear to actually block RFID at all. While it's a nice card holder (The side with two tabs), and has a nice look, I want to like this product but cannot give it great reviews due to the fact all four broke in exactly the same spot for four different people upon putting 1 ID card in, and the fact that despite claiming it blocks RFID, there seems to be no evience to support this and all four of them have the same problem(s) blocking RFID.For looks and functionality (as a "single" card holder, or as a holder that I have to remove the card to use another) I've given it 2 stars. I want to like this product, but it just isn't what they advertised.

Convenient card holder.

This is a good card holder to wear on a lanyard or spring clip. I don't really have a way to test the RF protection, but I am able to hold this up against a proxy reader and it can read the card, so I'm a bit skeptical about RF protection. It holds the card on front very securely, and the card on back is easy to get out, so when I need to insert that card in a computer or other reader, it's easy to get it in and out. I would buy this again.
