Greek: Chapter Five: Season 3

It's the day after "the end of the world" as they know it, and the gang from Greek feels anything but fine. In the wake of the game-changing Kappa Tau bacchanal that concluded Season Two, Casey (Spencer Grammer) is reeling from Cappie's (Scott Michael Foster) rebuff, Rusty's (Jacob Zachar) status in the Honors program is in jeopardy after he blows off his lab work to party with girlfriend Jordan (Johanna Braddy), Rebecca (Dilshad Vadsaria) has jeopardized her friendship with Ashleigh (Amber Stevens) by kissing her boyfriend Fischer, Evan's (Jake McDorman) bank account and social status are in decline after he gives up his trust fund, and pious Dale (Clark Duke) has lost his virginity and possibly his faith. "College," as Casey tells her supportive her, "lots of drama." Driving this season is the ZBZ sorority house's efforts to restore its No. 1 ranking after falling to No. 4 as well as Evan's increasingly desperate efforts to retain his shaky presidency of the elite Omega Chis, which shatters his renewed friendship with Cappie and culminates in the final snobs vs. slobs showdown between the Ome and the Kappa Taus. Looming is upcoming graduation and the e of on-again, off-again Cassie and Cappie; she who plans for the future and he who has been doing his irreverent best to avoid it. Are they just a college relationship? If so, Casey tells him, they are "one of the best ones of all time." True that! Scene-stealers this season are Aynsley Bubbico as the foul-mouthed Pan-Hellenic burnout Laura and Nora Kirkpatrick as no-nonsense Pan-Hellenic president Katherine. Greek is still to be commended for its three-dimensional characters, positive portrayals of teachers and parents, clever writing, and thoughtful of real-world issues. The wide-reaching pop culture references include playful and sly nods to Caddyshack, author Jodi Picoult, rom-com queen Nora Ephron, and Private Practice ("a show about old people having old people sex"). According to one of the episode commentaries, Greek, like the ZBZs, faced its own drop in popularity. Low ratings for the first part of the season raised concern the series would flunk out. But a Facebook campaign helped restore Greek's fortunes and ensured that the last episode would be a season, and not a series, finale. The episode does provide satisfying closure for several of the series' subplots. Unlike previous Greek sets, this comprises the entire season. In addition to episode commentaries, bonus features include an interview with Kirkpatrick about her character and a gag reel in which blown lines are met with giggles instead of profanities.
