Heart rending but inspiring

Even after nearly 20 years, reading stuff about 9/11 is still incredibly powerful and poignant. This is a well organised and written account gathered from several people who experienced the day's events first hand. I teared up a few times. This is a testament to human indurance and action in the face of complete devastation.

Amazing death defying experiences of survivors of that terrible day!

A book about 911 I'd been looking for for years. The stories just keep coming and little things they say give fuel for thought of what really happened on that fateful September morning back in 2001. If your a newby to facts on this event this could be quite shocking but if like me youv'e read and seen much about it and have a deep interest in what it was all about, this is an integral part of your reading matter and quite a learning curve. Absolutely excellent, could not put it down. Its now gonna be hard to find something as informative and interesting on the subject to top it.My heart goes out to all of these people who put their experiences of the WTC collapses in this book and also all those who also lived to tell the tale elsewhere. We should hope that no other selfish, greedy governments ever pull off one of these events on their people again!

Compelling read.

Very good and quite graphic with a few tales you may not have heard before. Put together very well by jumping from one account to another following the time line. Compelling read.

Outstanding history

Given the many books I've read about the events of this tragic day I was expecting another I was here story. How wrong I was. From start to finish it's a roller coaster ride of emotions. You get the full horror and confusion of the events laid before you. The book was literally one I had to read again straight away to fully take it all in. Thank you Mr Ronningen for sharing this outstanding work with us.

Thought provoking personal accounts of significant day in history

Came across this book in the gift shop of 9/11 Tribute Center whilst visiting NYC this summer. There were many books there that looked interests but this one really caught my eye. Bought it for $20 and read it within a couple of days of coming home. It is very well written indeed. The interchanging accounts following a timeline of the day blend perfectly together. The book really gives you the ability to feel the terror of the day. I have now bought it on Kindle too so I can dip into it at any time at any place. Highly recommended

Powerful, emotional and heartbreaking

Well written book of people's experiences. I felt each and every moment of this read. My heart goes out to all that survived and those that didn't. I feel much more connected with the victims of that day after reading this book.

Irritated me more than it interested me

So many years on from the terror attacks of 9/11 I still find it hard to get my head around what happened that day, and always take an interest in hearing accounts from those who survived, but I could've done without this one.As a piece of writing, this book irritated me more than any other has done for a long time. Most of the people who were there that day are not authors so in telling their story I don't expect Pulitzer Prize-winning quality, but this just tried too hard to make something more than it needed to.It reads like a high school essay where the teacher has said to include lots of figures of speech, use lots of descriptions, and the student has gone overboard. Nothing can just be... the body of a victim was folded 'like a pretzel', because saying it was broken or crumpled wouldn't be bad enough. When witnessing a person getting blown through the air by a blast they were 'cart wheeling like a bird with a broken wing in a hurricane'. Really? You're talking about the final moments of someone's life and you have to turn poetic? There's nothing romantic about getting blown up but apparently it was too good an opportunity to miss showing us his writing skills. It's amateurish and crass.Usually it's other people that class someone as a hero, but clearly this fellow thinks he's some kind of James Bond figure. When he's moving around the building he gets stopped by police and told he can't go into certain dangerous areas - because, you know, these people had a job to do and were trying to protect ungrateful individuals like our author. He has to 'parry' away their questions and complaints because he's on a mission and these clowns are trying to throw him off course. He could barely have sounded more pompous or more contemptuous of these folks who were very probably killed in the collapse while trying to save lives. None of that matters of course, as long as our hero can do what he wants. What happened that day was horrific and shocking and enormous, it doesn't need any hyping up to make it moreso. When the author describes his walk away from the Towers to safety he was the cool, calm, collected one who made every right decision - the other people that day get dubbed the 'monstrous mob'.I don't for one moment believe the author intended to be offensive but he honestly struck me as an unfeeling idiot. This 'monstrous mob' were human beings who were utterly terrified, running for their lives in the face of an absolute atrocity - possibly injured, possibly having witnessed the deaths of colleagues, seeing people falling from the buildings - but because they dare to scream, get hysterical or cross the path of our hero they are monsters. The only 'monstrous mob' that day were the hijackers who carried out this attack. But no, we have to show off our skills - include alliteration, the readers will love that!Reading the other reviews a lot of people seemed to think this was great, but I wish I'd saved my money. He might be a nice guy in person but you'd never guess it from this. Everyone that was there has a story to tell but a lot of people have told theirs better, with a lot more humility.

Incredible Testimonies of Survival

This book tells the incredible stories of over a dozen workers describing their harrowing experiences escaping the doomed towers of the WTC on September 11th, 2001. Though about 6 hours away from the area myself, like most others I remember where I was that morning when I heard the news. I remember being thankful I was not near there while feeling incredible sadness for those that WERE there and had to fight to survive. The people in this book and also the author, are just that, survivors! Well written, detailed accounting of these folks who got up and went to work one seemingly ordinary beautiful day and ended up living a nightmare. We will never forget!

Wanna know exactly what happened inside the buildings, read this!

Everyone should read this book! Harrowing, tragic, heart stopping at times, yet at the end when you read about their survival, you smile.September 11th will always be the day THAT tragedy happened. This book brings you directly inside the offices, elevators, and stairwells of the Twin Towers.I recommend reading this.

Interesting story but jumping from character was confusing

Interesting story but jumping from character was confusing. Also, it was hard to remember who was in what tower. Can’t imagine what these people went through.

From the Walls within the Twin Towers, the fight for survival begins..."From The Inside Out!"

Erik, you are a gifted and talented writer. One who has the power to stir emotion and the mind in your book "From The Inside Out" You have a unique ability to take the reader right into the story where I could feel the intense emotions as you tell your own story of survival, along with the other brave men and women. True stories shared of strength in the eyes of fear; self-control in the rush of panic; hearing and listening to the "inner voice" over mass chaos; faith where there appeared to be no hope; and a time when fate determined destiny. In this book, (which I could not put down) be prepared to expect the unexpected throughout the journey to survival. Captivating, mesmerizing, and filled with pulse pounding suspense that keeps you turning the pages. A time in history that comes to life for the reader, as they travel through the moments of the timeline leading up to the collapse of the Towers and thereafter. We will never forget 9/11. Everyone can remember where they were when the breaking news occurred. The stories of bravery shared within this book have many lessons to teach us all. It is a source of enlightenment, for there is much to be learned from the survivors of 9/11.Erik, you bring these stories to life when America needs it most. It reminds us all of how fragile life truly is, giving us a true sense of our own mortality. And most of all, it makes us stop and remember what is really important in this lifetime. As well as how fate plays a part in our everyday lives.Kudos to you Erik O. Ronningen, for writing this deeply moving book filled with courage, wisdom, and incredible insight.
