Kichler Hatteras Bay 31.25" 4 Light Halogen Fixed Rail Light with and Clear Fresnel Glass Lens Polished Nickel

First let me say, I don't believe a lot of the bellyaching and bad reviews for this fixture are warranted. Most of it seems to center on the size and finish, both of which are clearly stated in the description. Give the purchaser a bad review for careless shopping, but not the item. Another pet peeve of mine in reviews is downgrading for shipping damage. Again, this reflects on the shipping, but not the item. Amazon replaces anything damaged in shipping, so bad item reviews for such damage are also unwarranted. If you're troubled by the reviews on Amazon, check them on other sites and see if they match up. End of rant.I know nothing about remodeling kitchens. Since I needed to do this, I spent a lot of time looking at photos on the internet. The 4-light version of this fixture in a remodeled kitchen photo caught my eye. I thought it would look good over my sink. It is a little fancy, but not gaudy and overdone. I found it at Lowes so I had the manufacturer and item number, and here it was at Amazon for the same price.I couldn't be happier with the fixture. With newly painted white cabinets and woodwork, satin nickel pulls, black leathered countertops, stainless steel appliances, sink and faucet, it was just the right touch. The neighbors are oohing and ahhing and they think I'm an artistic genius. I don't tell them I just copied photos I saw on the net.After it was installed, I realized it had a definite nautical look. It reminded me of the summer I spent working aboard an aircraft carrier in dry dock at the US Naval Shipyard nearby. It looked like the 1960's era fixtures and fittings I remembered aboard ship.The description says it comes with GU-10 50 watt lights which I think are halogen type. It did not come with lights, however, but I didn't intend to use them anyway. Instead, I ordered Triangle Bulbs T95031-6 (6 pack) - LED 6-Watt Dimmable GU10 MR16 38° High Power 50W Equivalent, Warm White Light Bulbs, UL Listed, Energy star certified, 6 pack. Before the black countertops were installed, the three LED's produced too much light. The black counters toned it all down, and now it's just right. I used the left-over bulbs to replace the halogens in the stove hood.Because I was replacing a recessed fixture with this lamp, I ordered a Recessed Light Converter 4 inch and 6 Inch - Finished White Ivory, and it worked really slick. In fact, the electrician remarked that it was the easiest recessed conversion he had ever done. He also updated the other recessed fixtures with new white trim rings and they matched almost perfectly.The fixture arrived on my doorstep in good order. It was double-boxed and encased in a Styrofoam block.As I usually do with certain items, I also checked the reviews for this fixture on other sites. Since they were all more positive than here, I felt comfortable making this purchase. Would I do it again? Absolutely. If it's the right fixture for the spot, I would have no reservations recommending it.

I love the look of this fixture when it is off. Very SteamPunk. It's in my old Craftsman, and has a nice retro look. But the halogen lights just blast your eyeballs. So if you use them directionally, as I thought I would, when you walk into the room and it's pointing your way, or you are working at the sink and turn around... OW! On the other hand, if you want good lighting at a table, and the fixture is directly above, it looks great and gives very good light. How often do you look straight up when you are sitting at the table? You don't. It's when the lights are angled that I don't like it. So over a table, for a meal with lots of light, or a homework space or other project space, it's great. I'm going to also try a halogen compatible dimmer, and see if when you want more "romantic" lighting, if you can turn it down a bit and feel cozier, less like you need shades.

In spite of the other bad reviews, I decided to give this a try, as I really liked the look of this light set. It's really not very well made....the lights are not direct-able. They just fall back down when you point them in a direction. Definitely NOT worth the price. I returned mine and got a quick refund from Amazon.

I had recently come off a nightmare purchase of a much larger, much more expensive light for my kitchen that simply didn't work. I finally shopped for a replacement and decided on this light. I was concerned it might not be bright enough to light my rather large kitchen. It is fabulous. Simple, neat, and modern, this light definitely is bright enough to get the job done. I installed it really easily and love it. My only regret is that I didn't buy it the first time around. Very happy with my purchase.The four lights can be pointed any direction. They can be tightened to hold themselves up nicely in any position. It is a very shiny, stainless steel look, not brushed or dull finished in the least. Almost looks like chrome.

I purchase this for my kitchen thinking that it was MUCH larger - my mistake for assuming - I am sure the measurements would have helped my decision. Had I realized how small it was, I would have opted for something different, but it was installed anyway and it does give off great light in the kitchen and is not worth the returning hassle. The finish is what you would expect from a paint-finished product. The functionality is not as expected, the lights only adjust to one side and are so loose they fall back into place.

The item was broken when it arrived.

This is beautiful but does require expensive 50W halogen bulbs, these are the two-prong variety which turn and lock into place. These bulbs are bright and very hot. I had one new bulb burn out within a few days and probably less than a dozen hours (maybe the fault of the bulb) but another bulb burned out a couple of weeks ago, again too soon. Don't know if these bulbs are the issue or if there is some defect in the fixture. The bulbs were in different sockets. But those bulbs are expensive! This fixture did turn out to be smaller in length than I needed for my kitchen, that is my only regret. But the rustic charm of the design is very appealing. Can get a bit hot in the summer, though, because of those bulbs.

We built our house about 10 years ago and have a variety of fixtures in this same line of Kichler lights. I was looking for an LED track light system for my office and saw this light bar. It matches our other fixtures and the price was reasonable. I installed it in a few hours. The outside packaging was a little banged up as Amazon said it would be, but the light was fine inside, no dents, scratches, nothing. I put 4, daylight white, LED light bulbs in the fixture instead of halogen and it's great. I have two desks with two lights focused on each desk. I recommend this fixture. It easily illuminates a space about 12' x 12'.
