Should have been better for the money.

I generally only do reviews if a book is really bad (as a warning to other potential buyers), or really good. This book is middle of the road, but because of the price I decided to review it because I don't think it was good enough for the premium price. Other reviewers have provided story lines so I'll skip that, here are ratings and a few comments.3.5* for Lora Leigh--An Inconvenient Mate: This was a decent Breed short story. As always with a short story I'm left wanting more backstory and plot development. I've read a lot of the Breed books so it's hard for me to say if this would appeal to someone who hasn't read a few at least. I was a little confused as to why Leigh put so much effort into Malachi exercising such discipline in waiting to claim his mate, for the good of the Breeds. I was sure that it would somehow be relevant but he claims her the next day without any fateful events.3.0* for Virginia Kantra--Upon a Midnight Clear: Historicals are not my favorite, this one was OK but spent too much time detailing the period customs for a short story. The plot was predictable. I did like Aimee's positive attitude and the life lessons Lucien learned from her.3.0* for Eileen Wilks--Human Error: Not enough romance for my tastes but an interesting story with a good plot. This is clearly part of a series that I have not read so it was a little hard to follow with so many supernaturals and magical abilities.3.0* for Kimberley Frost--First Light: Also appears to be part of a series (that I haven't read). The fantasy world plot is quite complex and hard to follow which doesn't leave space for much else in a short story. Didn't feel the chemistry between the characters.

Nice collection

Really liked the Eileen Wilks and Lora Leigh stories. Have enjoyed the Breeds stories and this novella had a nice crossover to the Navajo Nation. The wolf shapeshifters of Wilks's book were new to me, but fascinating. Will try to find more of her works.

Wait for e-specials to come out.

As an anthology, I'd only give this one 3 stars. In reality, just save your money for the the short story from the author you'd like to read. So many especials are coming out now where you can just purchase the one in the anthology you like, don't spend $9.99 on this one. I bought the book for the Eileen Wilks short story about Benedict and Arjene, which was a nice little diversion/addition to the rest of the Lupi world. I'd give it 4 stars. But the other 3 were lacking for me. Kimberly Frost's short was at least entertaining and I may end up checking into other works by her; but the other 2 stories didn't have much substance. If you want to read any one of the stories in particular, wait for the especial. Or, just stop by your local bookstore, read the short your interested in and put the book back on the shelf. There's not enough going on in this anthology that you're going to want to keep it as part of your collections and it's not worth the publisher's price for all 4 of them.

Truly disappointing

I am a devoted fan of Eileen Wilks, creator of the Lupi world, and I wanted to read more about Benedict and Arjenie , who first appeared in "Blood Challenge". I didn't know any of the other writers who appeared in "Tied with a Bow" (this name is taken from a sentence in the first story), and I really do not regret not having read any of them before. Nor do I want to read anything by them hereafter. The Wilks story is excellent, well written, with wonderful characters, an intriguing paranormal mystery very well resolved and a charming Jack Russell Terrier to make things livelier. As for the other stories, the less said the better. "An inconvenient mate" is pure hard porn. If you like that, OK, but if you want something interesting to read, you'd better skip it. I kept turning over the pages to see where the story continued, but for every 6 pages of porn, you maybe got half a page of plotline. The other two stories are unoriginal and boring, and heavy in the soft porn area too. If I were you, I'd wait for Eileen Wilks to publish her story independently, as she did with "Inhuman". Unless, like me, you can't really wait to read Wilks¨s story, please, do not buy this book!!!

Wow

I bought this book mainly for Lora Leigh and Eileen Wilks stories. I loved three of the stories, but couldn't get into Kantra's story. I'm not big on historical stories. But the other three were very well done. I won't go into the story lines because all of the other people reviewing the book have done that. However, a fun, enjoyable book, especially just before the holidays!

Ridiculously expensive but almost worth it

I hesitated long and hard before buying this for the Eileen Wilks story and if it wasn't for the fact that I had a ÂŁ3 token from Amazon I probably still wouldn't have bought it. The problem is always the danger of the anthology - you know you like one author but aren't so sure about the others and you could thus be spending a lot of money for 100 pages. On the other hand, anthologies are an opportunity to get to know new authors. Swings & roundabouts!Well, hurray, I liked 3 out of 4 of the novellas. All run at about 100 pages so you get a good run at a story with character building, plot development etc.Eileen Wilks 'Human Error' - loved the continuation of the Benedict/Arjenie storyline outside of the Lupi arena. It was also good to get to know Arjenie's vast family. What I really liked, I realised after reading the other novellas, was that Benedict knew that Arjenie would be out there getting involved and coming to save him as much as he might try and save her. This had interesting parallels with the Kimberley Frost story which I wasn't really engaged by - one of the issues was sexism between a 21st century Pulitzer Prize winning woman and someone born in the Roman empire with amnesia. Despite being Roman and having no memory he knew instantly what to do to adjust the seat in a car was just one niggle, other than trying to protect her all the time. Won't bother looking for more of her work - she didn't really bother to explain her vampire/angel based 'world' either.I have read one of Lora Leigh's Breed novels prior to reading 'An Inconvenient Mate' and hadn't been overly taken by the series - so very Alpha male - but I enjoyed this story, perhaps because it wasn't too long. I felt that LL also explained enough about the Breeds world that you could read it successfully. The real eye-opener was Virginia Kantra's 'Upon a Midnight Clear' which I thought was a great read of fallen angels in the historical setting of the French revolution and afterwards. A touch of Jane Austen's Mansfield Park I felt too. I will seek out this author further. All in all, good, but I really can't justify the cost. Two were snowy and yule-tide but the cover is a bit pointless.

Don;t bother.

Really disappointed with this. I bought it for the Lora Leigh story but, it was quite tame and boring compared to her usual breed stories. The one by Virgina Kantra I liked, the others bored me and I ended up flicking through to get to the end. It was expensive too so I feel like I have wasted money.
