Universe: Exploring the Astronomical World

I have several astronomy books but this one is completely different from the others and is based on a large series of fantastic images. But it is not really an astronomy book: in addition to some typical photographs of deep space, it presents original combinations with truly beautiful images of various kinds: historical, mythological, maps of other cultures, but also of modern or contemporary art, up to latest digital art. An absolutely happy choice that makes this book truly gorgeous and one of a kind.

Le doy 5 estrellas porque la calidad de las imágenes y el papel es muy buena y se complementa con la excelente calidad de la información. Es un libro para los "no enterados" en el tema, es decir, entendible para todos.

This is an outstanding book. My wife bought it for me after I saw it reviewed in Sky and Telescope. I enjoyed the art and photograph reproductions and the way the editors matched the various pages. This provides wide ranging examples of art and study of the skies from prehistoric times until the present. This book is a great resource and very fun to look thru. I only had two minor complaints. One is the binding quality. My wife teaches art history and Phaidon being an art publisher often provides bindings that dont stand up to repeated use, I am afraid this might be another example, hopefully I am wrong. The other items are the captions or write-ups associated with each photograph, they are pitched at the level of what you will see in a museum exhibit. I would have enjoyed more details or referencesAll in all those complaints I have are minor and this is a wonderful book, I have enjoyed it and highly recommend it.

Wonderful book in every way.

Questa è un'idea bellissima realizzata magnificamente. Ho parecchi libri di astronomia ma questo volume è completamente diverso dagli altri ed è basato su di una nutrita serie di immagini fantastiche. Ma appunto, non è propriamente solo un libro di astronomia: oltre ad alcune tipiche fotografie dello spazio profondo o di altri oggetti celesti, presenta accostamenti originali con immagini davvero bellissime di vario genere: storiche, mitologiche, mappe di altre culture, ma anche d'arte moderna o contemporanea, fino all'arte digitale più recente. Una scelta assolutamente felice che rende questo libro veramente stupendo e unico nel suo genere.
