desertcart.com: Military Memoirs of a Confederate (Audible Audio Edition): Edward Porter Alexander, Traber Burns, Blackstone Publishing: Books Review: A true classic. A must have for military libraries. - A classic contemporary account of the Civil War. The introduction should be required reading for everyone. Review: Brilliant and unbiased - Wonderfully written, very engaging and elegant book depicting and analyzing military events with professional insight, but also in a very straightfoward, clear, well-organized way, which made it easy to see and understand every point, even by those not well versed in military operations. A great strength of this book is its cool objectivity. A must-read.

A very detailed accounting of battles and Confederate strategy for them.
In my opinion this book is not for the casual reader. The detail of battles and of the strategies employed by Confederate and Federal troops alike, require close attention to understand the outcomes. General Alexander gives a fair assessment for each action without bias. He writes not only in a "Joe Friday (just the facts, ma'am)" style, but naturally in the vernacular of the time which is sometimes hard to follow. I like the book very much but as I said before, it is not for casual reading.

The printing was pretty crude but still readable.
I enjoyed reading a contrary view of the events covered in most histories of the Civil War. Especially the unbiased criticism of Stonewall Jackson.

Great and important book
One of the two most important authors, historians, educators, tour guides, and editors on the Civil War. This is one of the most important books that he edited and should be on the book shelf all students and buffs on this conflict. I have read this volume more than once and appreciate the care and research that Dr. Gallagher put into this valuable, and worthwhile read. I have at least twenty books written and edited by Dr. Gallagher in my library. You cannot go wrong purchasing anything by this award winning author. This reviewer highly recommends this great and important book

Book is not a memoir; just a detailed battle report
This book seems to be a collection of the official results, details of gains and losses and specifics of each Civil War battle, as might be provided by many individual military leaders, not at all presentingthe personal involvement of this man; not a diary, not a personal memory of individual involvement. So, this book is not as ADVERTISED.
