I installed two of these today with no problems at all
I actually installed two of these sockets myself today -- a first for me! If I had had a wire stripper tool, I could've done it a lot quicker. I plan to order a pair of wire strippers, as I want to replace some other sockets that my husband ruined by putting bulbs in them that were 250 watts. The lamps still worked but the bulbs burned out very quickly and often with a loud pop. Before I began, I looked up directions on how to do this on YouTube; just wanted to supplement the instructions that come with these sockets. It helped, as I had a hard time getting the socket cap off the socket base in my lamps and I had seen a man have the same trouble and how he handled it. I also learned that I can turn ANY lamp into a three-way just by putting a 3-way socket in it. I hadn't known this, as I've passed on buying some lamps because I prefer 3-way types. That 50 watt setting is nice if you just want some ambient lighting or to light lamps in room corners to make the room look prettier and larger. As you can see, I'm pretty proud of myself for accomplishing this today!

Poor Iit
I’m very disappointed in the product. I selected the fixture because it is an Amazon Choice, A GE product, and it has a 4.5 star rating. I don’t know how it received that rating. It does not have a screw in the base to anchor the bottom section to the lamp once it it is screwed on. Most frustrating is that the top section wobbles in the bottom section once assembled, resulting in an unstable assembly. I spent too much time trying to stabilize it. I’m looking for high quality sockets but I dread going through this repair again.

This did the trick
I ordered this to fix a lamp with a shorted socket, something I had never done before. All it took was two pairs of pliers and a phillips screwdriver and in less than 20 minutes I had a nice floor lamp I have had for a long time up and working. No instructions required. I suggest you unplug the lamp from the wall first unless you're looking for a new hairstyle. This did the trick exactly. Thank you.

Not a 3 wa socket
1. does not respond to a 3 way bulb, so....2. socket is very wobbly in lamp. should there have been a washer or something included?3. No way to return this product. going to toss it and buy a new one.4. Do Not waste your money. Get a different one!

And Then There Was Light
I have some very old and very expensive brass and cloisonne lamps that were continually burning out light bulbs. It was plain that I needed to do something about that -- at the least, new power cords and new light sockets. I picked out the GE product from the Amazon selections because I wanted known reliability. It was a good choice, since I was going to stop using incandescent bulbs and start using very expensive LED's. This light socket saved the day for me, and now my lamps work well, reliability, and I have no fears of them burning out my bulbs, particularly these costly ones. I'd recommend this to anyone who needs to get their lamps working again.

Works like a charm
This device provides more than you really need. It comes with all the parts separated; that is the base, the sleeve and the actual 3-way switch. When I received it, I realized that all I needed to replace was the actual switch. So I disassembled the existing unit by twisting off the sleeve from the base, pulled the switch down out of the sleeve, replaced the switch (enormously easy) and reassembled the existing unit. Works like a charm. My existing twist knob fit this unit, so my lamps match perfectlyThe base and sleeve in this unit seem flimsier than the existing unit. Plus, there is no hole in the base for a set screw (which keeps the base from moving). My existing part has a set screw with a hole in the base for it.Don't take your lamp apart until you get this unit. Leave your base on and just wriggle the sleeve off. You'll agree with my approach!

They work well but should last longer.
I fixed the same lamp 5-6 years ago using what I think was the same product, and I'm having to replace it again. It works fine, but an old school socket would have lasted a couple decades. Having the GE brand may still mean something insomuch as they hopefully have enough of a sense of pride to make sure the are manufactured to a reasonable level of quality. But I think it should have lasted longer.

Socket to me
Replaced one that failed within two years and this installed easily. We use for three way LED bulbs and it seems to work flawlessly. I do have some reservations on longevity as it can be difficult to turn, so have given it 4 stars instead of five. Will update if it excels or fails in the future.Update 4-15-20 Yup, it failed pretty quickly, considering the lamp only gets used once a day or so. I think two years or less may be the limits on these switches, so reduced to three stars for longevity failure. I purchased another one as replacing takes only a few minutes and is cheaper than a new lamp for sure. Be aware that the screw on fitting may not fit all lamps. I had to use the old base to allow it to be used on our lamp, but the new switch and cover snap fine into the old base.
