it arrived in great condition and looks great, however the holes for mounting on the bookcase were not aligned well, so it is slightly ill fitting. I had to make the holes a little bigger. overall it looks great, just not a great fit for the bookshelf its recommended for.

Wasn't sure what to expect for the low price but very satisfied. Meets my needs and easy to assemble with many uses! I'm very happy I chose to try. Perfect fit for me and look great in any room and can be used in many ways depending on your needs. For the price this is a great choice!!

This is a handsome and generally sound piece. However, the holes that would receive the pins from the bookshelf part are not arranged in a square. They are out of line. Doesn't a machine do this? Is the machine not set properly? The easiest cure is to not use the pins that don't fit in the holes properly -- not the most desireable way to build something sound, but workable and it doesn't seem to present a safety hazard. Where's the inspector on the line to fix the machine, or to pull out the faulty pieces and not sell them?

I felt compelled to write this review because there are so many negative ones that are either incredibly old or appear to be a user error rather than an error with the product itself. I purchased this mantle top (as recommended by Amazon) to go with the 27" Casual Home 3 Shelf Folding Stackable Bookcase. I purchased the 29.5" mantle top which is recommended for this size (27") bookshelf. It fits perfectly and securely with the pegs provided with the shelf. Because there are different size and color options for both the shelf and the top it is the user's job to make sure the specifications are correct and that the finish is the same as your purchased shelf. I purchased a Honey Oak stained shelf and bought the Honey Oak top. Boom! Perfect, cohesive unit. If you're purchasing a bookshelf, one hopes you have some modicum of reading comprehension; use it when selecting your purchase options and you will be nothing but happy with this product. :)

Bought the bookcase and the top, sold separately- what a scam. The bookcase really isn't bad, but the top is just garbage, holes are poorly aligned; thing rocks like a ship at sea. I will probably return the top, but they grabbed an additional shipping cost, which is probably the reason they sold them separately.I am so tired of getting all this junk from Amazon that I could just move to the woods like Thoreau and buy a spinning wheel like Ghandi. My wife feels otherwise. She likes the bright lights.If you must store books, buy the bookcase. Skip the top. Throw out whatever you were planning to place on it. That's what I did.

I ordered this top for my folding bookshelf which I have had for over 10 years. I always thought about getting the top for it and just never got around to it. When I found this product on Amazon, I ordered it because it was a good price. Some of the other reviewers complained of the product not being the right size or being chipped. I had no such problems. The product is beautiful! A great way to complete the bookshelf. If you want to order, I suggest measuring the bookshelf you have first. I ordered the top which was a few inches larger than my bookcase, which accounted for the overhang. Holes lined up great. Thoroughly satisfied!

The plank of wood itself is fine and the look with the shelves is nice...kind of finishes the whole look. However, the black plastic inserts don't fit in the holes (i pounded and tried switching them etc.). So, after placing the plank on top of the shelf you can see the black nibs and the plank just sits on top of them.If you're not fussy, it's ok, but don't count on putting anything too heavy on the top shelf..
