Short Sweet and to the Point

Honestly, when I had gotten it, it was newer to powerlifting and still in school for sports and exercise science so I was mostly just reading it to see how the coach and the west side method programmed their workouts. I’m a lot more involved in the running community being a track and field coach, but I like seeing that even though distance running and powerlifting are different, we all create our workouts off of the same training principals such as specificity and progressive overload. I remember when I first saw the percentages of the maxes used for dynamic effort days, I didn’t really understand at the time why they were so much lower. But after reading a little more and through my experiences with when I would lift and how I train my athletes. I understand the benefits of it on multiple levels. I also love the use of different exercises. Most programs focus on just basic squat or just regular benching and not really adapting or make any changes. By being more dynamic though and not doing the same exact thing everyday is important for not only strength gains in the big three, but in general and can help with injury prevention as well. The book is honestly really small and formatted in a way that you can look at it, grab the information that you need quickly and easily if you need a little refresher, and as I said, does more than talk just about the big three by talking about bracing, posture, etc. It’s honestly just a really simple straight to the point book but did great at answering the questions I had.

Some good background info but no practical workouts or exercises

Some decent background information. Very bad grammar and editing. No complete works to follow. No descriptions of example exercises. I know what a squat is, but I'm not familiar with variations; no help here. Not sure who this book is targeted for unusable by a beginner. Anyone else would need to invest a fair amount of time to build their workouts.

Helpful

I got this for my son as he is a beginner and it helped him with proper technique and advice. Very helpful.

Another Excellent Book by John Gaglione!

John Gaglione is beyond his years in training wisdom. An elite lifter who practices what he preaches and an even greater strength coach who has transformed many into nationally ranked lifters. His methods have proven themselves time and time again. It is a sustainable system guaranteed to deliver unbelievable results. This book does a phenomenal job showcasing the training principles behind the program. There is plenty to take away from this book and immediately begin incorporating into your programming. Highly recommend to anyone looking to take their lifting to new heights

Good powerlifting book for both novice and experienced lifters.

A very nice book that serves as a powerlifting guide to both the novice while providing helpful lifting/training tips to the more experienced lifter.

Save your money

Eighty pages at 16 point font; probably doesn't qualify as a book. Very general and not at all worth the price.

John Gaglione isn't trying to reinvent or acting like he's coming up with something new

Despite the size of the book (it's quite small) - I believe it makes up in the quality of the information.John Gaglione isn't trying to reinvent or acting like he's coming up with something new. Rather, he's simply saying, or even perhaps regurgitating, what many of us thought we knew in a more palatable way.Additionally, he doesn't offer any real program here for people to use, but instead supplies general (though very useful) guidelines om how to progress. So if you're just a regular man or woman looking for more information on how to get into Powerlifting or already lifting and in need of some motivation to break a plateau, I definitely recommend this (and/or "Powerlifting for the People").
