Pilot Vanishing Point 18K Gold Rhodium 1.0mm Stub Nib. Review: Add Flair Too Your Writing With This Stub Nib! - I have had the Vanishing Point for about three years and I stopped using it as the broad nib was just too much for me. I began to use the Lamy Safari with the 1.1mm nib. Perfect! So after about a year of use I decided to buy this 1.0 mm nib. Now, this is my everyday take along pen. Quick to use just like a ball point pen - but with the flair of a sub nib. It greatly impoves my handwriting! Review: Fast ship and a great product. - I',m very happy with this product it arrived fast and in great condition-I needed this because an infant got a hold of my pen and well you can imagine what happened from there luckily for me the body of the pen was ok but the nib now has a curl to it that just does not work. This solved that problem and I'm back to using one of my favorite pens again.

Pilot Vanishing Point 1.0 Stub - not smooth but makes my handwriting look great
My favorite fountain pen is Pilot's Vanishing Point, and I have three different 18k gold VP nib units: fine, medium and this 1.0 stub. My favorite nib to use with fountain pens is the stub, and I have many stubs ranging from 0.6 to 6mm. I wish that this was my favorite stub nib -- what a match that would be for me: my favorite pen would also have my favorite nib. I have to settle for a near-miss. The fine and medium nibs provide an unbelievably smooth writing experience. Of my 30 or so fountain pens, the only rival for them is a vintage 1940s Eversharp Skyline gold fine. The good news is that the VP stub nib adds a beautiful flair to my writing, both cursive and printing. This allows the ink I'm using to show off its beautiful attributes of sheen and/or shading, and those are the types of ink I use with this stub. The not-so-good news is that this stub is not smooth -- it's just not. Most stubs don't quite match the smoothness of regular nibs, so I don't expect the VP stub to match the VP fine and medium nibs in that regard. But I have several non VP stub nibs that are smoother. I am right handed and use a tripod grip, holding the pen at about a 40 degree angle. The stub scratches and drags, regardless of my experimenting with different angles. I can't say I ever found a true "sweet spot." I still use this stub because it makes my handwriting look so good, and I love the VP pen itself. Perhaps I have a defective nib, but I have read similar comments to mine elsewhere. I am considering sending the nib to a nibmeister for tuning, but at any rate, I'm not giving up on it.

Item arrived ... without its nib!
I'd ordered a 1.1mm stub nib (which comes with a Con-40 converter), but ... **no nib was in the package! ** Just the converter. Very annoying! So: I'm returning it.

Best to have a lot of nib units for various writing tasks.
Pilot makes the best nibs. I bought these replacement nib units for my Vanishing Point instead of having to buy multiple pens. I have three nib units and the matte black Vanishing Point pen body. This is my favorite workhorse pen.

Vanishing point fountain pens are very good.
These nib units write extremely well. I modified mine for a more oblique / italics appearance and it's one of my favorites in the Ferma pen. It's isn't designed to hold and write with outside the pen body (in response to the question asked for by Amazon).

There's no mention as to the nib size
The product arrived, and it works as advertised in my Vanishing Point pen... unfortunately, the nib was a medium.... I was looking for a fine tipped nib. No where in the amazon listing - and no where on the packaging, actually - does it say what the nib width is.

This is my first stub nib, and I wasn't sure what to expect. I was delighted to discover that it writes beautifully: slightly scratchy, yes, but I like the tactile effect. It produces a crisp line with precise contours. I'm very happy so far!
