Don't let this book title fool you. It is not an oversimplification of accounting and financial principles. It is, however, a serious and very effective examination of a very small but progressively complex business. There are not many books available on the market that make a complex and dry subject understandable and even fun. This book successfully does just that. The authors help the reader understand the principles without getting caught up in large numbers to confuse matters.This book is a brilliant analysis of the original small business --a lemonade stand. This business starts off simple and progresses into a more and more complex financial entity over the course of several weeks. While it is so well explained that even the average teen could undertsand it, this book is a serious learning tool for anyone and does not in any way take on a condescending tone. The authors have fun, but offer meaty information. Ever wonder what the difference and advantages are between the accural and cash methods or why the statement of cashflows is so important or how depreciation effects the bottom line or how the decision to use LIFO or FIFO effects the income statement? All those answers and many more are nicely illustrated in this wonderful book.

But this book makes learning easy and helps speed retention. Everyone should read this for a better understanding of a sometimes difficult topic.

If you are looking for a book to help you wrap your head around the fundamentals/basics of accounting, then I whole-heartedly recommend this book.I had a "Survey of Accounting" class in college, and remember precious little about what I learned. So when I started my business and tried to use some accounting software, I quickly realized that my Accounting knowledge was lacking.This book took a very fun and very applicable storyline to learning the basics of accounting. It teaches you one simple accounting lesson at a time. I enjoyed it so much, that after I had read the entire book, I sat down at my computer and started to reproduce the storyline in my accounting software. That helped to reinforce the lessons that I had learned.This book teaches the absolute fundamentals of accounting fairly well. However, I soon realized (in my sit-down with my accounting software) that some topics were not discussed entirely, but implied. The double-entry method was always implied in principle, but not formally named or taught. Most advanced accountants will probably find some topics woefully lacking in this book. But that is because it is a book for people beginning to learn accounting!Again, I strongly recommend this for beginners, but I would also recommend acquiring other books to supplement your fledgling accounting knowledge.

This is an easy, excellent accounting book. It's the best accounting book ever. The examples are clear and understandable. It's fun to read. It gives definitions that you'll remember, and is an excellent overview of accounting.However, I'm only giving it three stars because it suffers from something that most accounting books suffer from: impossible examples.This book is done like a worksheet. It's about half simple instruction and half impossible examples. The examples are impossible, because to actually fill them out, you'd have to remember tons of information from 1-10 pages ago. The part where you just read is very good. The part where you're supposed to fill out the account schedules on the pages of the book is almost impossible to do by yourself.It would be an excellent workbook to be used in a 10-day accounting class, where you write in your book as the teacher writes in his or her book. But, if you're trying to do this on your own, you really would need to keep track of tons on numbers and receipts, etc., to even be able to do the examples.

This book is excellent. Finally, a book that explains serious accounting in a fun and easy way. I had been searching high and low for a book like this. For years there only have been books that I feel intimidate many people from learning accounting. Thanks to "The Accounting Game", we now know that anyone can learn accounting. I read this book before starting business school and when I started class, I was answering questions that no one knew the answer to thanks to this book. I ended up getting an A in the class.This book uses the same strategies that were applied to us when we were children to help us remember important information and concepts. These strategies are 1.) Asking questions, 2.) Repetition, 3.) Relating the material to real life situations. I used to be an elementary school teacher so I know that this is the best way to learn. That's why we still remember our ABCs and multiplication tables. You will definitely remember all the valuable information in this book easily.Whoever gave this book 1 star has no idea what he/she is talking about, so don't listen to them.Seriously, BUY THIS BOOK!!
