Older styles but just what I was looking for
This was what I was looking for. I needed a pattern for a necktie and got more with it!

Serves the purpose
served its purpose. I wanted a full vest and long tie combination pattern. Not too difficult to make if you have some experience with sewing.

For those with sewing experience
I never sewed a shirt before this. My mother helped me understand the pattern instructions. Don't recommend for someone with little sewing experience

Still a great pattern.
This is the same pattern I bought close to twenty years ago to make my husband and sons matching shirts! Still the best for a basic dress shirt.

Not for the beginner
My 3 rating is nothing to do with the quality of the product - it is a very good pattern for a set of tailored shirts and waistcoats. I wanted to try my hand at a sewing project as a beginner, and gave up with this quite quickly. The instructions are perfectly adequate for an experienced sewer, but a bit baffling if you are starting out. When I decided the shirt I was trying to make was not going to be wearable, I gave up and got a simpler pattern from Kwik Sew and was able to make a very simple short sleeve shirt in a weekend from it. One thing I like about the Kwik Sew pattern in preference to the McCalls is the quality of the paper for cutting. The McCalls paper is thinner than tracing paper and moves easily, whereas the Kwik Sew is more like strong newsprint, much easier for a beginner.I can't criticise this McCalls pattern in any way. It was too advanced for my sewing skills and knowledge, which isn't the pattern's fault! Perfect for the experienced clothes maker.
