Hello. This item is a tip burnisher, which removes Mushrooming on the edges of a cue tip. It does not shape the tip. Is this burnisher plastic OR aluminum?

It is plastic but is tapered inside. I found that slightly wetting the side of the leather tip works well. Too much pressure can force the tip off tho so be gentle

Will this work with a 11mm tip?

I believe so. Should be good from 10 to 14 mm

what does a tip barnisher do?

The theory is this:When you put a new tip on your cue, you trim the radius of the tip and trim the outside diameter of the tip. The radius of the tip is another story. The outside diameter after trimming is raw leather and softer than it should be. this leads to "mushrooming" of the tip because the soft sides will collapse. You put this tool over the tip and turn it. In theory, it creates friction on the sides, heats it up hardens the sides of the tip. It tends to turn the sides black which enhances it's appearance. What really happens; who knows? Don't stop turning during this process or you may pull the tip off trying to get the tool off the cue. John

Best tool

My tips never mushroom and it’s cuz I use this tool along with a Kamui leather tip burnisher.

Does the job on standard size cues (12-14mm tip diameter). Not so good on smaller diameter snooker cues.

Great!

This thing seems to burnish the tip on my cue pretty well. To get it black I would say wet it with spit or a marker first and then use the tool. I like to hold the tool and turn the cue. My buddy put the tool on the ground, held between his feet, then put the cue in and turned it like he was starting a friction fire. LoL That technique worked even better.
