Works well so far. 30 pens and counting. Comes with 5 basic bushings for the mandrel and the trimming kit works well. Zero complaints.

Awesome combination of what you need to get started.Some instructions or links to videos on how to use it would be good, but if you're buying this, you probably know enough to get started.I used this in my Harbor Freight lathe 65345. If you're doing the same, remove the factory chuck mount from the headstock so you can get the tool rest in the right position.I added the cuban pen bushing set and have already turned a couple pens this way. Definitely a huge step up from using a drill and a tapered stick!Edit: The barrel trimmer comes too dull for proper use, but about 5 minutes with  EZE-LAP L PAK Set SF/F/M Color Coded Diamond Hones  and it was fantastically sharp. You'll have use a gentle touch with your drill after sharpening, but the results are fantastic!

Great package deal! However the tail stock will start to wobble over time. This is because of how you have to remove it when you are using your lathe for other than turning pens.

The mandrel works great. Mine came with a very long 7mm drill bit that wasn't listed in the description, nice little bonus. The barrel trimming tool wasn't even close to sharp and had little ripples in it, like someone tried to sharpen it with a round file. Nothing that can't be fixed, but a bit annoying to have to sharpen a new tool out of the box.I do wonder if it may have been returned after someone failed at sharpening the trimming tool and they mistakenly returned a drill bit with it.

I have the harbor freight lathe and this fits perfectly. I had never turned pens before either so the mandrel saver was a money saver since I'm sure I would have bent it on accident when tightening my tailstock!

I liked that this kit came mostly complete. A set of 7mm bushings, drill bit, and end bits, but after 2 pens made, here is what I see: The mandrel is not stable enough to prevent bending. My first pen came out beautiful, but the second one not so perfect. There is a slight difference from one site to the other leaving an uneven coupling at the center. This is cause by a slight bend that occurred in the mandrel. To be clear, my tools are very sharp, and I am very light on the touch. Fortunately, I was turning inexpensive kits (Slimline), but If this screwed a $15 kit, I would be even more upset. The bit is nice and sharp, the end bits are anything but sharp. Would I buy this again? NO!. I wont give it a 1-2 stars because it is not listed as a deluxe mandrel. You get what you pay for. I will be paying more for a better unit, and will keep this one for an emergency, should one arise.
