I installed this on a gate that is less than a thousand feet from the ocean. Every regular latch I've used previously was destroyed by corrosion within a year. This one is primarily a heavy plastic and I expect I won't need to replace it. My only complaint was with the instructions. They're not as clear as they could be- I installed the latch part on the wrong post and had to swap them after putting them on. The holes didn't line up universally, one side allows for horizontal wiggle the other for vertical. Be sure to pay attention when installing!

Like: strong magnet, latch works as advertised.Cautions: Gate edge must be very close to post to work. Covers to hide screws were hard to install.

We use this as a backup latch for our back yard gate. Perfect.
