Yes, They are "pricey", BUT.... Considering that I paid $122.00 for an IStar 5 bay hot swap box, the four Lian Li BP3SATA back planes are a steal! I installed them in my Lian Li PC 76A server tower and now have the ability to use up to twelve hard drives. I presently use 6 Western Digital drives in a raid 10 config. This way, I can have damage to up to six bays on my back planes and still be fully functional! And you all know about the "legendary" quality of Lian Li cases. These back planes are no exception! I simply plugged in a pair of drives before snugging up the screws on the back planes, to achieve a gorgeous, silky-smooth hot swap connection! I am returning the I star hot swap unit, since I never opened it or need it.

These backplanes come with required fasteners and are easy to install. Depending on you Lian Li case, you’ll need a combination of dual and triple backplanes to cover all the slots. The dual backplane is the BP2SATA.I deduct one star for the simple reason that Lian Li could have included the capacitors that this backplanes features in its hot swap enclosures (which is apparently where this PCB came from). The traces are there, as are the pads / vias for the relevant capacitors but they’re all unpopulated.Including the capacitors would allow more reliable hot-swap performance, especially if you daisy-chain multiple drives off one power supply cable (as is common practice). If you only plan on changing drives with the computer off then this is not relevant.All in all, a clean design and a great addition to any Lian Li case.
