Q: We have had this opener for just under a year it will no longer open any letters. It looks like the top blade is not spinning. Can anything be done?

The belts get stretched out . How many letters do you open daily ? We have ours approx. 3 years , opening 200+ letters daily. You can carefully clean the cutting wheel, BUT BE VERY CAREFUL IT IS SHARP !!!. Also you can try wiping down the belts , but again the cutter wheel is sharp . You may be able to buy the belts from the manufacture .

Q: I want to open inbound checks. does it damage the contents of the envelopes?

No it just cuts off the very top of the envelopes. About 1/4 of an inch down . You may want to tap the bottoms of the envelopes down before inserting them . Hopefully that helps .

Q: The top blade isn't spinning. Just falls out when you open the blade guard. Is it supposed to click in place or what keeps it in the correct position?

I believe it clicks in place. We recommend reaching out to the manufacturer for troubleshooting on the item.
