The Teacher's Grammar of English with Answers: A Course Book and Reference Guide

Bought it for a Masters class I am taking. Good reference book!

By far the best grammar methods book out there. Forget Larsen-Freeman and whatshername. He actually taught L2 grammar for a living and it shows in his book

I found it very useful and very relevant to my postgraduate studies . The price was much cheaper than our book store at the university I got it on time

This is a very in-depth analysis of SAE. For those who revel in this sort of thing, it is an excellent resource. It contains not only detailed analyses of grammar items, but also practice exercises, summaries, difficulties for ELLs, and sample teaching activities. I am quite disappointed because I just bought it (new) for a course which is in its 12th week. The book is falling apart. A page just fell out a few minutes ago. I had planned to rely on this book for a long-term resource, but I don't think it will hold up well enough to make it a staple in my teaching library.

Everything you have ever desired to know about Enhlish in +700 pages.

Clear explanations, judicious use of grammatical terminology, lesson ideas for teaching specific grammar points, exercises with answers, all in all great value for money for teachers and an excellent reference grammar. The only drawback (this does not concern the author) is the unwieldy size of the volume i.e. this magnum opus needs reformatting. Thank you Mr Cowan for your service to the English language.

709ページからなる本格的な文法書である。名著の誉れ高い本書が、適切な評価を受けていないので、タイミングを逸した感が無きにしもあらずだが、本書の名誉回復のためにあえて投稿した。本書は「序論」「文法用語」「文法を教える」「疑問」「否定」「命令文」「非指示的なit とthere」「前置詞」「複合動詞」「限定詞」「冠詞」「形容詞と副詞」「代名詞」「法助動詞」「間接目的語」「時制と相」「受け身文」「関係節」「条件文」「主節と関連構文」「補文」「焦点構造」「従属副詞節」「比較級と最上級」「等位」「談話接続語と談話標識」からなる。伝統文法の枠組みに談話文法の知見を取り入れた書である。およそ英語教師として知っておくべき文法事項はすべて網羅されているといえよう。Will/be going toの説明も抑えるべきポイントはちゃんと抑えている（pp.314-317）。 I’m going to leave a little after seven o’clock. ( planned future) Look out. We’re going to hit that car. (immediate future) Look out. *We’ll hit that car.（immediate futureではwillは不可） 約10年前に出された書なので参考文献は少し古くなっているかもしれないが、今日でも立派に通用する優れた文法書である。
