Does this have a hysteresis, or "swing" temp control?
Does this need a C wire or does it run on batteries?
Does it have a programmable fan?
Why would you buy this thermostat over the one that costs $26, also from Honeywell?

Good for the Price

I bought this as a replacement for a cheaper 2009 Honeywell . Off the bat the mounting holes matched so that was awesome. Easy install as to the wiring , I noticed there's a jumper in the RC spot just like my old one so that was another plus . One thing though , when you put batteries in for the first time you wanna set up the date with year and time right off the bat , so read the instructions otherwise you will have to look for the advanced instructions to be able to get into the programming and then you can set the date and year and choose other options/parameters which are illustrated in the instructions.Overall I'm happy with it , the only thing that I don't like is that you can't tell like my old thermostat would show a lil flame 🔥 or a snowflake ❄️ when the system is actually running and this one does not , but not a big deal.So yeah for $50 it has 7 day dual temp settings , lit background - nice 👍

Better than nest

We recently bought a house with a 1 stage heating/cooling system. It came with a very old honeywell thermostat (probably 20 years old) but still worked like a charm. We wanted something that is more modern and looked around. Our first choice was nest thermostat, with all infatuation about its appearance (just like any other apple product). At the end of the day, I was prepared to spend $250 towards a thermostat! (they did their marketing very well)). I read the reviews a little closer and noticed long term users complaining of wifi issues, no control over push firmware upgrades, waking up to a cold/warm house, etc. Most positive reviews were from folks who had it for less than 3-6 months. No one could comment on their longetivity or whether the company was going to remain in business 3-4 years from now. With all these doubts in mind, we went for our trusted brand honeywell (and saved a lot of money). While this particular model does not have all the bells and whistles of nest, it works just as fine (if not better). It came with all the necessary instructions, mounting screws, dry wall spacers, stickers for labeling your wires, etc. Took me less than 3 minutes to install and get it running.Programming is easy. All you do is set current time on the clock and then go to schedules. You can select multiple days at a time if required. Then you set your desired temp. Each day is divided into wake, leave, return and sleep periods. So can program 4 diff temps daily. This thermostat does not have an auto switch filter from heat to cold (which might be a necessity for some down south) but up here in Indiana, switching from one mode to another is just one finger press. I'm not sure about the amount of savings it will bring to my electricity bill cause this is the first thermostat in our house.Pros:1) easy to install2) cheap but well built3) programming is easy (took me less then 5 minutes to program the entire week)4) backlight is a nice thing to have in the dark5) Reminder to change air filterCons:1) wish it had hourly programming like the nest thermostat2) Does not have automatic fan feature. It' either on with AC or manually on. Would be nice to have (to save on some electric bills)

Seems to work as advertised

I got this unit to replace a 29-year old Honeywell Chronotherm 3 that controls our 2-stage forced air gas furnace. I installed it this evening. I got this unit specifically because it says it works with a 2 stage furnace. Apparently not all thermostats do. It also allows for 7-day programming, which I'm used to from the Chronotherm 3. (Vs. programming all weekdays alike and Sat and Sun alike.) I took a photo of the wiring in the old unit before taking it off the wall. (This thermostat comes with tags to put on the wires to help remember where they go in the new unit, but a photo was less cumbersome and my wires coming out of the wall were pretty short so I don't think there was room for the tags anyway.) The main delay in wiring up the new unit was that I had to paint the wall where the old unit was because it was bigger than this new one. I put a clothes pin on the wires to keep them from falling back inside the wall when I was painting. Once the paint was dry, wiring this baby up was pretty straightforward. I found it helpful to use some needle nose pliers to help get the wires into the holes. You'll need a smaller-than-usual flathead screw driver to set the screws. The designations for the wires on the new unit match up with the ones from the old unit, so that was easy. Programming the unit was fairly easy, although not perfectly simple, I think. I had to press a little harder on the touch screen than I had expected, but it wasn't difficult. I had a little trouble getting into the Schedule screen where you enter codes for the kind of system you have (in my case a 2-stage gas furnace with no air conditioner). I bypassed that programming section to go on to scheduling, thinking I might call the customer service number for help programming the system, but I went back later, tried it again, and got it this time. Not sure what I was getting wrong earlier; possibly something about not holding one button long enough. Scheduling was pretty straightforward. There are four periods for each day and you set the time and temperature for each one. I set all the weekdays together at the same time. I set Sat and Sunday each with their own schedule. The unit is running the furnace now and it seems to be working as expected. I'd give it five stars but to me five stars suggests perfection. It seems to WORK perfectly but maybe a five star unit would've installed itself? I'm a reasonably handy guy who does residential remodeling for a paycheck, but I think anyone with patience and basic homeowner skills could install this. Our last Honeywell thermostat lasted 29 years. Our Trane furnace wasn't supposed to last this long but it keeps chugging along, even surprising the techs who service it. (Take this as encouragement to buy a Trane.) I expect this new unit will outlast the furnace but maybe it can run the next one?
