Spelling Skills: Grade 3 (Flash Kids Harcourt Family Learning)

We had ordered a VERY expensive Spelling/Reading/Language/Writing combo from The Good and the Beautiful at the beginning of this school year but we found ourselves hating it!! I treid to stay positive but both me and my child did not enjoy it. He is technically 3rd grade so that is what we ordered in the Flash Kids for Spelling/Reading/Language/Writing and he and I both absolutely love it!! My son is super smart and enjoys learning and he has raved about these books!! The setup is wonderful and depending on the book we do a lesson of spelling a day and test- we do a few reading lessons a day. He begs to do more lessons he loves them so much! The spelling is also helped him recognize his words in cursive and desire to start writing in cursive as it shows the words in both print and cursive writing..I was a little afraid that it may be too easy but definitely is not-he really has to apply himself and we have nothing but good things to say about these books!

I like this book has a parent letter to aid the parent to use this book with the child. It is a colorful workbook and I don't have any complaints because I haven't use it just yet!

I'm not only a homeschool mom, but I also have a MEd (Master of Education) in elementary education. Here's my review....This is a great spelling book for my 3rd grader who is homeschooled. There are even questions requiring dictionary skills, which I'm glad they have (but be sure you have a physical dictionary on hand). This book is appropriate for an advanced/bright 2nd grader, on-par 3rd grader, or a 4th grader that may need a little extra help.This book requires a bit of writing because they will write each spelling word several times in different contexts. It employs proofreading skills, which I like as well.If you would like/need to give your kids tests/quizzes, there are also a "review" at the end of every few chapters.My only criticism is that the words are spelled in cursive at the beginning of each chapter. This may not be a problem for most students, but if your student is not used to cursive writing (which starts in 4th grade in public schools), it may take some getting used to.Overall, I think it's a great book.

My daughter struggles with spelling so I ordered this book as an additional supplement. However, the content of this book is identical to the spelling section found in the Complete Curriculum book, which my daughter already has. I recommend this book if you are only looking for spelling - just know that if you have the Complete Curriculum version that contains several subjects, this will be a duplicate of the spelling section found in that book. I will be looking for a different spelling supplement from another publisher so I can get new material.

This was a great addition to our homeschool curriculum. My 9 year old enjoyed the lessons and topics covered. I would recommend for any parent wanting to get extra practice with their child.

I am using this and other Flash Kids workbooks to teach basic skills and to catch my granddaughter up to grade level while she is staying with me. She is gaining confidence and skills to progress in reading and writing. Spelling is now her favorite subject, mostly because of this book. Her reading is advancing rapidly, as she learns how words are spelled and the various spellings that form sound combinations.

Love this series. We homeschool and use the reading, spelling, writing and language arts books from Flash Kids each day. My daughter really enjoys all of them. The spelling book has four pages devoted to each spelling list. The exercises are fairly repetitive (similar exercises for each list), but there is some variation.

It's goes alongside with what the learning in school now.

Love this series! I've been buying Harcourt books for all my students. They are the best!
