Simple yet deep

I'm an amateur Muay Thai practitioner. I have often looked online for different strength and conditioning routines for my sport, but with a plethora of options with different ranges of complexity and confounding reasoning (and almost always based on anecdotal evidence and pseudoscience at best) I found nothing I trusted enough or saw enough results in to stick with. Conversely, this book has laid out a straightforward, easy to understand, scientifically sound premise for strength and conditioning training that supports my goals in Muay Thai. The premises here are flexible enough to accommodate different needs from different athletes, but stable enough to provide easy access to a rewarding sport-specific strength routine. I look forward to reaping the benefits in training and in fights.As an aside, I found the short section of mental training to be thoughtful and beneficial. This is an oft-overlooked part of combat sports training, but anyone with just a few fights knows the difference between feeling "on" and "off" (and how feeling "off", or too calm, or too excited, can cost one an otherwise winnable fight). It's easy to imagine how integrating regular results-driven practices meant to reduce the chances of off-days--decreasing the chances of impaired performance due to anxiety, nerves, doubt, frustration, or distractedness--can be a great tool for anyone invested in combat sports.

My Fitness Bible

For the first time ever, I’d finished my first strength training cycle. I must say this book and ATG exercises as ancillary exercises helped with my patellar tendonitis. I currently practice Muay Thai and needed a way to incorporate weight lifting without it interfering with my Muay Thai practice. This book provided a system that not only doesn’t take a lot of time but it is efficient! It’s a system based on movements with an emphasis on mobility exercises as well. After one cycle of following this system, my knee pain is gone and I can feel myself getting stronger.

Must Read for MMA Skills Coaches and Strength Coaches

This is the book I've been yearning to read! If you are a combat sports athlete, this is what you need to maximize your training with the limited time we have as fighters on regional or local scenes. Often what I've seen is strength and conditioning works two ways: either strength coaches have you doing unnecessary work or MMA coaches have you doing uneducated work. This puts everything in perspective for training MMA fighters to get strong but also focus on the skill planning.

Practical guide

this book is written for the professional and hobbyist alike. It's clear and concise and based upon a common sense approach to strength training and conditioning. The author runs a respected program at Stout Training in Pittsburgh, PA, so this is a practical guide, not just theoretical. This manual helped me reinvent my conditioning program and I've seen great results. Highly recommended!

Solid Lean Efficient

This book is a great place to start for beginners or those looking to lay a more solid foundation and insert a complete regimented program that can be modified for each individuals goals, level of comprehension, and abilities. It is efficient gives examples when needs too, no ego or stating anything is absolute and offers suggestions when appropriate.

This book covers everything you need to know about strength and conditioning training for fighters. It’s thorough but concise, and easy to follow, even for those (like me) who train just for fun!I would give it 10 stars if I could. Also, pretty sweet cover.

Comprehensive while keeping it simple

Excellent book for any combat sport athlete. Covers everything in detail with solid guidelines and principles which will enable you to program your own strength training.

BUYER BEWARE: There are no rest times indicated for any of the strength routines

Like a cook book that doesn't include any cook times, this book's strength routines listed here do not mention any rest times between sets or sequences. In the one chapter on conditioning it mentions rests between rounds, but 2/3 of the book simply gives no idea on how long to rest between exercises. I reached out to the author on his site twice to get some clarity, but it's been some time and he hasn't bothered to respond. For anyone looking for actionable advice, a lot of it can't be used given that we have no idea how long to rest.

Probably the best book on S&C for a combat athlete

I really enjoyed the concise style of this book, which despite it's relatively small volume is packed with important information. It became possible because the author removed all the traditional for this genre fluff staying precisely to the point.But the most important feature of this book is that it is not about showing a bunch of exercises and putting them together in a random workout. It's more of a system and template, that can be adapted to the needs of very different folks.And this system is minimalistic in a good way, which means that workouts will not distract you from your sport excessively providing at the same time with the bang for the buck tools to upgrade your strength, power and mobility.
