In The Skies - Expanded Edition

Peter Green had been lost in the wilderness of mental illness. After a massive bad dose of LSD, his mind began to unravel. I triggered latent schizophrenia for Green who was one of the greatest blues guitarists of his generation and often referred to as “the Green God” by his fans.After leaving the group he co-founded Fleetwood Mac, Green recorded a solo album with rambling blues jams. Returning nearly a decade later, Green recorded his first true proper solo album. Working with Snowy White (who played a large amount of the lead guitar work because Green was insecure about his playing having been away from playing for ages), Green had a handful of new songs and composed some in rehearsal and in the studio with the musicians working on the album.‘In The Skies” isn’t quite “Then Play On” but it’s a very good album that finds Green in fine voice with some strong material. The procuring compliments Green.This newly remastered edition features a quartet of bonus tracks-two single edits of the songs “Apostle” and “Tribal Dance” along with a pair of rehearsal tracks (that appeared on a Snowy White anthology) “Slabo Day” and the title track. The booklet provides excellent background on the making of the album.

I love this album. Peter Green has left us now (as of July 2020) and his legacy is undeniable. Mostly of course as founder of Fleetwood Mac. But for his solo work, this is my favorite. It is also his most consistent. Though there remains some controversy about how much of the lead guitar was played by Snowy White, I don't care - there is enough trademark Peter Green sound and that voice is unmistakable. This is a super Music On Vinyl pressing in limited edition. Probably from a digital source which I don't mind at all - it sounds terrific and MOV does consistently excellent work on their pressing quality so I have a high trust in them. Sounds better than the original pressing I had back in the day so I give this my highest recommendation.

Die LP kam in unbeschädigt Zustand an. Sie läuft zentriert, ohne Wellen und Kratzer. Die Pressung scheint qualitativ gut zu sein. Ich bin zu 100% zufrieden und kann sie nur weiterempfehlen.

音質は1997年発売のCRCL-4009盤のほうが数段良いです。「Apostle」と「Tribal Dance」のシングルバージョンと「Slabo Dance」と「In The Skies」のリハーサルバージョンがボーナスです。これを聴くと、1979年の晩夏の夕暮れを思い出すのであります。暑い夕方、道路に打ち水した後のような空気感がジンワリと漂ってくるかのようなサウンドが絶品です。
