I took Japanese back in high school/middle school many decades ago and wanted to learn it again. The books and workbook and answer book, as well as the vocab cheat sheet are working well and it does a great job of teaching me. However, I still have to look stuff up online for complete comprehension, and I also added another audio course and some apps online but Genki is great for the basic vocab and grammar. Try to learn Hiragana and Katakana first before you start this though!

I owned older versions of Genki before buying these updated books. This is perfect for self-study of essential Japanese grammar especially as you progress to N3 level.Pros:- Good books for beginners Japanese- The answer book is useful for reference- The sheet it came with was okayCons:- No CD, audio parts are digital now

Good bundle for the price. Great books for learning grammar, the work book helps reinforce the concepts. Highly recommend using the free app to do the listening exercises. The fold out has a lot of common phrases but doesn’t really tie into the books, it’s good for quick reference.

Came much quicker than I was expecting and was very professionally wrapped.

This was an amazing buy. It introduced me into japanese although it is basic japanese and doesn't get you to fluent and probably most japanese people will not speak like they are in a textbook, it does give you the basics of their language so you can slowly start to understand.

The quality is really excellent, and it is straightforward to learn. I finished vol. 1, and I can quickly write basic journaling in japanese, which I think is a speedy progress.
